9mm Parabellum Case damage
 

Hi to all!
I have recently shot my new 6" Mauser 29/70 with handloaded ammo (4,7 grains Vectan BA9- H&N 125grains TC .356" 1.145" OAL), and most ejected cases have a damage near the mouth, it looks like they crash with the extractor ¿?
Wonder if some member has seen this before and if it is normal shooting this gun. I believe that load isn´t too hot, but I´m thinking about reduce it a little... Any ideas?

This is quite common, at least on my Mauser Parabellums. It is not a problem, and the sizing die will straighten it right out for another loading.


I can't speak to your loading figures, as that powder is not available in USA.

My Mauser Parabellum does the same thing. No real problem,just annoying.

You are right, rhuff, they look quite decent after sizing. I was worried because I select .749" - .750" brass for precision shooting and this is a tedious work to use them only one time. I supose brass live will be shorter than usual, but I will assume it.

Take a look at the extractor spring (small coil spring). I had similar markings on a VoPo P08's spent cases. After replacing the extractor spring, ejected cases went noticably higher (rather than landing in my face and on top of my head), and the cases ejected without furhter damage.

The ejector on a Luger pistol protudes through the breechblock face at its lower right, pushing the spent case up and to the left where the case mouth collides with the inside upper left frame rail as it extis the pistol, causing this case damage. This is common occurance. Floating around the internet somewhere, there is a slo-motion video of a Luger firing clearly showing this behavior (sorry, I don't have a link off-hand).

No. It was a video made by the Kurrzeit Corporation, which manufactures high-speed video equipment. It is not currently on their website.
