Webley No.5 New Model Army Express...
 

Gents,

Saw the post about the Webley .455 semi auto so thought some of you might enjoy this revolver as well.
This is my Webley No.5 New Model Army Express in .476/.455 and .45 Long (Colt). At the time it was purchased at the Army Navy C.S.L. in England, around 1889 if I remember correctly, it most likely would have been a Junior Officer purchase as the top break Webley WG model which was more expensive and therefore something a higher officer would have afforded. was in full production by then. I'm sure most of you know that the English officers had to furnish all of there own kit including their sidearms.
It was made to compete with the Colt 1878 double action and personally I think they did a bang up job! I use this as my main match revolver in NCOWS with either black/substitute .45 Colt or .45 Schofield cartridges.
There is not a bit of rust or pitting anywhere on this old girl and where the bluing is gone its either rubbed or flaked off....if you look closely there are areas of that beautiful fire blue left in places and small parts.

I love old Webley's. The No. 5 has been one that I have always wanted. Very nice!

Yeah, I love them also, and I looked forever ( seems like it anyway) for this No.5....Webley handguns in and of themselves are scarce now due to all the British home, and territory's, gun confiscations and then to find ones that haven't been cut for .45ACP or .45Auto Rim makes the truly nice ones even harder to find and both the full size and pocket No.5's are hardest of all.
Having said that here is a link to a No.5 on GB....its been reblued, and not the best at that, but looks to be in fair condition otherwise. Might be something to consider just because if the scarcity of them.

Thanks for the link. I'm paying for my Daughter's up-coming wedding, so funds are tight right now.
I have a Webley MK I Revolver that has been converted to 45 ACP. I bought it for $200 because all of the finish has been chemically stripped, but otherwise in very nice tight condition with a mint bore. I shoot .45 Auto-Rim with 250 gr hard cast bullets and BP equivilancy loads of Unique. It is extremely accuate with these loads. Eventually I'm going rust blue it.
