I had dealt with Barry (E-medals owner) and his staff in the past.
They are very good and honest people.

If you like Polizei medals... here is a Frontkampfer cross with the award certificate that was presented to a Police Sergeant.

Like the promotion document from Hamburg, this award cert from Donau would be a great addition to a police luger from that area to display along side. They both would be a nice display addition to any police unit marked luger. It's all in presentation............IMO

I came across a cased Frontkampfer which was nice. Price was more on the case than the medal itself.

Schupo 05-04-2013 02:01 PM

Yep, I agree that it would make a nice display.

The Frontkampfer award is certainly not expensive but what makes this one is the certificate. Notice that this is actually a rather late award since it is dated in 1939. I suppose he simply did not put in for the award for several years after its 1934 establishment.

NoncomRetired 05-04-2013 02:09 PM

I noticed that also. This is your cert, right? There are certs out there but they are named to the recipient's present status when awarded and not to their war time unit. Finding a police one is great.

:) Schupo is one of the foremost experts in German police knowledge, he makes me look like a beginner.

I respect and am jealous of his collection

I'd love to see his collection, I'd like to see everybody's collection.

Thank you Ed. I am embarassed :o

NoncomRetired,

Yes, this is my Polizei award certificate and medal. And, yes you are correct that most of these Frontkampfer medals were awarded to butchers and bakers and candlestick makers instead of policemen.

You may also be interested in the Railway Police rifle markings that I just posted on another thread.

Nice markings!!!!

I'm sure I already know the answer but I'll ask anyway, I'm sure you have a Polizei Berg Fuhrer's Badge, Polizei Schi-Fuhrer's Badge and a Bergwacht Hilfi-Polizei Badge in your collection? I lived in southern germany for a few years and was able to gather a nice collection of Gebirgsjaeger things but a HeeresBergFuhrer's Badge was impossible and when there was one available, it was close to $1500-$2000, as much as a KC or a GC in Gold at that time.

Schupo 05-05-2013 02:15 PM

These police qualification badges have been extensively, and very cleverly, reproduced in the past few years. And, as you point out, are outrageously expensive for the fact that they are simply qualification badges and not combat awards like the Knights Cross and German Cross. The Frontkampfer award with swords is visible proof that the recepient served at the Front in WWI. Yet these awards can be bought on today's market for under $50.

Well, I once tried to built a Polizei display.
This plan is currently on hold, as there are other priorities.
Here is what I got so far: Medal Bar and Ribbon bar, with Iron Cross (1914) 2nd Class, Honor Cross 1914-1918 for Fighters and the Eighteen Years Long Service Cross; shoulder boards and collar tabs for a Meister der Gendarmerie (rural Police)

Hope you enjoy it.
Douglas.

That was the set of parade mounts I search for and had to settle for what I have.

I have this so far, I'm waiting for an 18 year award to replace the 8 year award. I have seen the 18 year award ribbon with and without the embrodery.

Thanks, I'd love to top it off with a brocade belt but, like you, I've other priorities at the moment. Besides, the cost on a dress belt is as much as another luger. Someday maybe.

Cheers

Some nice Gendarmerie (Rural Police) goodies guys.

Douglas, you have a good start with your insignia and medal bar. I particularly like Meister rank stuff as they were the Senior NCOs of the Polizei. And we all know that NCOs run these police and military organizations.

NCO, I love your early tunic with the light brown collar and cuffs. A Kreigs-Offizier (Wartime Officer) with the brown underlay to the orange piped shoulder boards.

Here is an example of the Schutzpolizei (Municipal Police) Kriegs-Offizier uniform in parade dress. This is a 1942 dated Schupo tunic that has the later dark brown collar and cuffs. It has brown underlay to the green piped shoulder boards. This one has an 18 Year Police service medal like the one you are interested in. I have also replaced the white leather police marked belt with an early brocade parade belt since I took this photo years ago.

Great display....I'm envious of the brocade. Someday!!!!!

There were two original award loops with one added later on my tunic. They take the three medal parade mount fine and could even a fourth. As you can see I added an EC 1st Class and a DRL badge. I wanted to find a four medal parade mount that also had a KVK w/swords 2nd Class so I could display a KVK 1st Class on the pocket because............the two loops won't take a EC 1st Class because the loops are too short, the bottom loop comes up just above the bottom clasp but a KVK 1st Class fits perfect. If I could do that I could show it as a wartime-officer better.

Here are the only other two displays I have in the form of police:

An officer's parade shako is on my lotto list.

Complete set.........and way out of my reach but this is SS police and I guess this type could be worn on my tunic since there is a SS membership. Would this be correct? Just guessing.

The Tschakos look great with the proper matching Police P.08 pistols in your display case. This headgear is a great idea for a Police Luger display.

Since your Gendarm was a member of the SS, as indicated by the runes below the pocket, you could certainly use the SS brocade belt with Police (or SS) buckle. He would have been authorized to wear either belt. A 1st Class KVK with Swords would be good on your uniform. The 18 year Pol Service Medal should have a white eagle embroidered on the ribbon though so you are stuck with the 8 year medal on this bar since it has the proper ribbon for that award.

If you have a Volkspolizei P.08 you could also look for a VOPO Tschako for a display. Here is an enlisted version of the Tschako. The uniform is a Model 1948 Volkspolizei NCO uniform and has a VOPO hard shell luger holster on the belt. I always like to see accouterments with displays and you have a flair for making them.

NoncomRetired 05-08-2013 07:01 PM

Which brings me to a question, I have seen on and off ribbon/medal bars 18 and 25 year medals on plain blue ribbons. Why is this? Here's and example:

http://www.emedals.com/collectors-ga...e-awards-g8751

These people are good people and deal with big time items.

Although I'd like a to have an officer's parade shako, I've been looking for an all black Berlin shako, wartime and Weimar. I already have a Shupo Berlin luger. Know of any?
