ebay repro grips

http://www.ebay.com/itm/WW2-German-A...item43b4b7a258

Ordered a set of these off ebay. They shipped pretty quickly considering they came from India. Went to put them on and they wouldn't fit. Spent 3 hours sanding and chipping away at them to get them onto the gun. Finally got them onto the frame then had to deal with the magazine not fitting. "Almost" fixed that. Still very tight, but it'll do.
Now that they fit, I'm going to start shaving down the edges since they (unevenly) hang over the edge of the frame.
They're $32. If you want to put in a little elbow grease, these might be for you. However, I wouldn't recommend them.

I think I bought a set from sarco, same issue about fitment, Im finding out reproduction parts for guns are like repop parts for our classic cars, nothing fits. jim

I fitted a pair of "grip4you" repro luger grips and they fitted up very well.

I also purchased a pair of these and they definately need a fair amount of "attention" to get a nice fit. Once I was satisfied with the fit, I am satisfied with the grips overall.

Tried to shoot a few mags today and the rounds wouldn't chamber. The grips still go in too far and they're affecting the magazine spring. Absolute garbage grips!

I decided a long time ago that repro Luger stuff is no good. Repro holsters, too tight, repro tools, they bend, repro grips, sloppy fit.

Many times you pays what you gets ;)

Agreed. With the examples above, the cheaper ones on eBay look typical of the Asian copies around--the front top corner of the left grip is rounded, rather than pointed, which is a detraction that should keep anyone from buying any of them. But I suppose if someone wanted to shoot their Luger, they would be better than holding the pistol without any grips at all... The ones on grips4u look better executed, and may actually come closer to fitting.

Jim,

We have obviously shared the same experience, working on our old Chevelles. Some repro parts are good, some are so-so, some are just plain, useless junk.

I have a set of the Sarco grips, and the eBay grips look very similar (could be from the same source). The checkering is too coarse, the panels are way too thick, they leave gaps at the top and around the perimeter, and they need some creative carving to fit on the pistol. Holding a Luger with these grips on feels like holding a double stack pistol with rasps screwed to the sides.

I was thinking about sanding them down and try my hands at recheckering them. They would still won't fit right, but at least I'd get some practice.

I gotta pick up a set of files so I can really chip away at them. And at that point, I think I'll just decorate them with a woodburning kit since they're already pretty chewed up anyways.
If I completely screw it up, I still have the plastic grips it came with. They're broken, but I'll deal with it.

I think a dremel would be the tool to use to make it fit. So Olle, what year chevelle are you building? are you a member of team chevelle? My screen name is Jim Mac over there too. jim

I had bought a set of those for about €14 at a German surplus store and never got them to fit or look okay.

I have bought a set of Nills instead and couldn't be happier!

I bought few of that India repro in the past. Doesn´t looks good, but when they fit, they are good for shooting. Sharp and rough checkering together with a more fatt design fills my hand better.
Here in the CR is a Klinsky company, producing several designs of grips, also for Luger. I can not recommend that. No "mass" for fitting, too slim, practically you can be sure that without fitting you will crack it at the place where the safety lever is. But may be some of you will find nice grips for another of your gun...

I, too, bought a set off Ebay. They were made in USA tho and finished in a nice original color. However, they were a PITA to fit. A Dremel with sanding drums and router tips plus much regular sanding finall got them to fit. OK for $24. They look great too. The inside routing when new was very generous with excess wood that allowed proper fitting to various Lugers. If you are not handy with wood working tools, go the expense of original grips.

East German VoPo grips are ideal for shooting.

Hollow inside, so no binding of mag or follower.
Easily converted to grip safety.
Fit well and are comfortable to hold.

Guys,
you can buy originals online for just a little more or sometimes less.
Member Jim Solomon runs auctions most of the time for original and or repro grips he has fit or repaired or re-checkered.
I've bought them for as little as $20 , though usually they go $30 to 40. Look for "Dent2".

No, I don't get a commission! ;)
