1937 (S-42) Luger ?

I am looking at a 1937 S42 Luger. All the numbers match including the magazine. The owners has a 1936 holster, and another magazine, with a small tool in the pouch attached to the top of the holster. I am trying to figure what this gun is worth? I would say the gun rates in the 85 to 90% condition. Doesn't look like it has been reblued. just a nice gun. I have seen where people talk about strawed. What does that mean? He is wanting $2000, for the gun. Just not sure, what it would be worth. Any help would be great!

Hi Harry, Welcome to the forum! To be of much help to you we need to know the serial number, including suffix letter, and to see photos. The small parts (trigger, thumb safety, take-down lever and magazine release catch) on Lugers prior to mid 1937 were heat treated a light straw color. After mid 1937 they were blued like the rest of the gun.
I hope this helps some.
Regards, Norm

1937 Luger ?

I am pretty sure there is no straw finish on this gun. It is all blued, and the trigger is a finish that looks to be a nickel finish. It has some bluing missing on the end of the barrel, and on the high points of the gun. Other than that it is in very good shape. Wish I could provide pictures, but I don't have any. I hope this helps a little!

The trigger should not be nickle

It might be a nice gun, but $2,000 seems pretty high for a 80%+ gun, but everything depends on what you consider 85% or what I would consider....

The matching mag helps a lot, but without pictures we are simply guessing.

We have seen very nice guns that than were screwed up, Mauser frame and matching number but has a DWM toggle or it has a wrong type of mag, etc.

Very hard to help without good pictures to give any value.

Go to some of the major retailers and look at prices vs what the guns look like, Simpson LTD will have your year and maybe one in same condition
