American Eagle Ammo
 

Has anyone shot American Eagle 9mm 115 gr through their Luger? How was the reliability/cycling/extracting? I'm picking up a new shooter some time next week and I want to make sure the gun itself functions properly.
The only ammo types I can find in New Hampshire are American Eagle and various types of hollow point.

Federal Ameican Eagle 115gr is ammunition which has worked consistently well in Lugers for me, for thousands of rounds. Be sre to get a new aftermarket magazine for shooting, preferably a Mec-Gar.

You know with everything going on with gun laws and the shortage of ammo these days, 9mm seems to be a tough caliber to find. I went to a local gunshow a month or so ago, and only one person there had any 9mm rounds. And what he had was the american eagle brand. I have never shot any of that brand through mine. I was curious about how they would work. As for most local gun stores, they have off name brand 9mm rounds as well. Mine used to shot the winchester white box and PMC the best. I havent seen any of them brands around the SE lately. maybe once work finally slows down for minute I'll have to try the brands available and see what happens.

I have also noticed how much .223 and 5.56 rounds were going for. Almost 2 dollars a round. I guess for now my fun guns will be locked up and put away. I have been buying 30-06 here and there when I see it for my 1903 springfield. Thats even getting to be a round hard to get what you want.

All this going on around the nation REALLY sucks for those of us that just like to enjoy a day of target shooting and shooting our old relics. I'm hating to see the day when all I can do is just hold it and look at them. maybe things will get back to a reasonable level of availablity of things for us again.

It's calmed down quite a bit in NH to the point where I can actually find some 9mm. The local gun store has tons and a 2 box daily limit will hopefully keep it that way.

.22 still eludes me. Strange...

Recently went shooting with a friend who supplied all the ammo. He had MagTech brand 9mm. Fed OK into my 1918 Arty, but would not in my normally flawless 1913 DWM or my Hugh Clark "Baby-08" (which is for sale). The BEST 9mm I've got is some MiWal reloaded 125gr FMJ, that I bought a Metric Ton of 10 yrs ago. I'm trying to hoard it now, as I don't see being able to replace it anytime soon :crying:. Shooting for pleasure, for me, is a thing of the past.

WOW, 5.56 for $2 a rd, glad I found that full can I thought I lost at the last Big Sandy shoot. By signing the UN Arms Treaty, there will be no more Mil-surp ammo imported for the un-washed masses. I fear that current prices and availability you see now are the new normal (at least until 2016). :(

I have five 9mm lugers that I use for shooting. I use the American Eagle 9mm 115gr, all the time, and have NEVER had a problem. You should have no problems unless there is a problem with the gun itself.

It must go from gun to gun? I have tried these in a 1917 Erfurt and it did not like them at all. Fail to feed was the most common problem. PMC works like a champ in it and the others as well. I tried two different magazines with the same results. Winchester works well too in all but one. I guess they are just finicky and took some trial and error.
