p08 sears
Hi please forgive my ignorance but can anyone tell me what year DWM changed from using the long sear bar to the short sear bar and why? any info would be gratefully received.

Hi Tony, Welcome to the forum! The change to the short sear bar took place towards the end of 1916. It allows the action to be opened with the gun on "Safe".

Since DWM didn't waste completed parts, they continued to use the unrelieved sear bars until they ran out of them. There can be an overlap of serial numbers. I have two 1916 DWMs, and one has the unrelieved sear; the other the relieved sear.

A bit more precisely, the relieved sear bar allows a loaded wepon to be cleared with the gun on safe. If the striker is not cocked, the action cannot be opened with the safety on.

Thanks chaps you have been most helpful! I knew coming here would be a good idea!!
