byf 41

I recently purchased a byf41. It's an Eastern block rework. It has two x's (russian mark) and two 77 in starburst proof marks. Are these E german? The pistol is totally matching down to the smallest parts, even the grips match. The finish is gorgeous, it looks like a professionally done reblue, very unlike the dips.

One more question, it takes a lot of force to load a round. Is this because the pistol needs to be broken in? TIA

It shouldn't take any force to load a round. Are you saying you have to 'push down' on the toggle to get it to take a round into the chamber? If that is the case then something is out of shape. It is tough to tell without seeing it, but somewhere the x's that have been stamped on some import pistols have been confused with the 'crossed rifles' found on Russian contract pistols. Surely some pistols have come from former Soviet Block countries but the xx's aren't a sure sign of Russian origin. Sounds like it has a nice finish. Can you post a picture?

Paul,

Bill is correct that it may not be a Russian rework. It may be an East German rework and the one E. German rework "K" date I have has an excellent reblue, all matching and is nice! The only replaced part is the barrel and it was renumbered to the frame. Usually, the E. German reworks work great. More info and we may be able to help with your problem.
