Look what I found

Here is a good one.
I purchased a 1918 DWM Luger and a mismatched P38 on a small on line auction a couple of weeks ago. They finally arrived today. The 1918 is a fine Luger; needed cleaning and oiling, but very nice. The P38 is nice as well but a mismatched barrel. The Luger came with a very nice 1939 holster which was quite a nice addition that I did not expect. BUT--- there was a tool in the tool pouch. When I removed it, I checked the markings, but they were too light to be seen with the naked eye. With the aid of my jewelers loupe; OMG-OMG-OMG; was what I was saying out loud and being all alone, I guess I must have looked a bit foolish. But, when the "037" proof came into view, I could hardly control my emotions. I immediately called Don (Hallock) to share my good fortune and at the same confirm what I had found. He said he had seen only three of these in his entire life. According to he and Joop in their Mauser book, the very early tools in the K date era were not blued; they were left in the white. This one is not blued. I had to highlight the proof with chalk. Here are a couple of pictures. Mike |
Congratulations! Finding a needle in a hay stack like that seems insurmountable. Maybe you should go to vegas for the weekend ;)
