Mauser hump
I'm a small LUGER collector, day by day I discover that and the more I read the more I find things to learn. Recently I've read about the so called "Mauser hump" but not having seen any photo about it I've not understoood what it is. I wonder if one of our Luger gurus could help me. Thanks in advance.

If you compare a WW1 Luger with a later Mauser, you will note that a small protrusion was added at the very back, top of each lower receiver ear, (above and behind the safety on the left receiver ear). This was added because it was apparently found that on the older guns, the upper receiver and toggle train could come back far enough during recoil or brisk charging of the pistol to expose the entire diameter of the rear toggle axle, allowing it to come out far enough to bind the whole system. The added "hump" to each receiver ear prevents this from ever happening.

Another question: Do all Mauser built Lugers have the hump, or was this feature phased in at some point?

Zorba, Mauser made many changes..often not very noticeable unless you look hard but this one was phased in because Mauser obtained some DWM parts so they used frames they got from DWM. When they started making their own.. the hump appeared. To answer your question..Do all Mauser built Lugers have the hump, No they do not. Very early Mausers you may find without it and there could be others..commercials or contract pieces. I don't study Mauser all that much so another Member who is knowledgeable will have to elucidate on that.

Ed, Thanks for this link! I have to admit I don't look around at a lot of stuff..it's not exactly hidden but it is if your not looking. Nice write up. Guess I should get out more often.

I would think that you have plenty of time to accomplish your objective. Keep working at it. But don't make the big mistake: that is thinking that you have solved the riddle. That is when you will once again realize that it still alludes you.

John..Yes..All too true! It's a shame I cannot make it but duty calls. One makes commitments and pleasantries must be sacrificed. You guys have as good a time as you can without me! Thanks for thinking of me though..

This is something that is hardly even noticeable, this hump. Is this a term people made up? Like Glocks having Pig noses? OR is this a real recognized thing by the Luger collecting world and Mauser? Is it like a Mauser trademark I mean also? That it has this hump, I mean they also have that toggle that has those angles on it. The mid toggle link is not straight like the others, but Mausers have that ridge/Bevel what is that called?

What is the unique mid toggle, with the obvious flares or bevels on the sides that Mauser has ? Thanks....you know what i mean right? where the mid toggle has a distinct look about it? What is that called? I'll post some pics
