Trommelmag 101?

I've had this repro for about 30 years and never really fooled with it other than clean and oil.....like much of my stuff. I actually like it since it fits my 30 cal and holds 7 rounds. It will not, however, fit my 9mm Erfurt...sticks about half way in. So, the question is were originals made for different calibers? Then, with regard to the 'holster', how were they carried? The repro case has 2 short straps, don't know if that was standard.

There was only one style and size of Trommel. A real one should fit all WW1 era Lugers. Your repro case is also a fantasy item, which never existed in the era when the Trommels were issued.

Fantasy?

You mean like 'Freedom' here these days? Still a neat conversation piece, in my mind. Just thought it odd it only fit one gun...but then it's a reproduction. Still doesn't explain how or what the straps were used for. How did they carry the originals. I've read mention of the dust covers but haven't seen even a pic of one.

Hi Bill, Trommel magazines were carried in canvas pouches, worn on the belt. Surviving examples are very rare and expensive, but if you have a spare $2,500.00 kicking around, you can pick one up at FGS Firearms.
