Swiss Question
 

I am very new to the Luger World and have read a lot and still know very little. I have found what sounds like a nice one and I can return if not pleased and only have to pay postage both ways.
It's a 1926 Swiss with matching numbers on gun, but not grips and mag. Says a strong 90% and no issues.
He says it's an import and I do not know if I should stay away or not. I have looked for Posts and Threads bit have not found any info on import's.
Can someone help me out ?
What would approx value range be.
I have looked at web-sites, FGS--Simpson has so many that I get mixed up just looking,--one other I can't remember the name, however it did have a lot of nice Lugers, but only 2- 7.65.
My top dollar range is around $2250.00.
Would sure like some help on this.

You are correct that your eyes can cross looking at all the examples on Simpson, Ltd. But that is why these guys always recommend learning, doing research, buying bookls and then buying you Luger, not the other way around. That makes your first purchase a good experience.
I don't know anything about Swiss, but there are a lot of guys here who do. There is even a special column for Swiss Lugers. Ask questions and learn.
$2250 should buy you a lot of Luger, but I understand that for some odd reason the Swiss stuff is pricey.

you have to have pictures ( detailed pictures of all angles and internals ) to determine if finish is genuine if its been buffed etc. These experts dont buy guns sight unseen. then you have to wait for the one who is into swiss lugers who is willing to share his knowledge to get online and respond. If you are uncomfortable DONT do it. my .01 cent

Swiss Lugers are particularly well made, and many of them have survived in very good condition - partially because the Swiss assignee took care of his pistol, and partly because W+F had a comprehensive rebuild program.

I think Simpson and FGS are asking appropriate retail for one of these recently imported Swiss Lugers.

By non matching grips, are the grips correct Swiss grips, or something else?

John, some folks love the Swiss guns, it is not one that I own, that is not to disparage them, just a personal feeling. However, I would like to eventually have one of each manufacturer :)

If it looks very much like the ones for sale on the retail websites mentioned, then I would be interested (If I was you). Not as many Swiss collectors and experts on the forums, but there are guys who know a lot more than me. But post pictures here and see what folks say.

Bobba, an Italian author wrote a very nice book on Swiss Lugers, a friend of mine is selling his collection, I have that book for sale here on the forum - sorry for the self plug :)

Are most Luger's import?, or is it best to stay away from imports.
Simpson's has so many and I see no mention if import's or not.
Does it matter ?.
I did look at the FGS web-site and talked to Craig and found that the web-site is not up to date and they have none of the Lugers and the owner has taken them to an auction house and they will be putting an up to date in about two weeks.

I think I would step back, study, buy some books and decide what is best.

GENERALLY import marked guns are less collectable, however, it depends.....
