K date on gunbroker
 
Take a look at this K date. I sincerely hope this is not a listing from a forum member, as I really don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. The seller states:

" I wish I could prove this was the original finish but I cant. 4 experts that have seen this piece are divided as to finish originality".

No straw, looks refinished from any angle; I really would like to tell him something, but I guess I walking on thin ice now.

the side plate is mismatched with 81? or one heck of a coincidental scratch

As it is, a fine shooter at $1000.
But the metal doesn't look too far gone. Might make for a restoration project to get it closer.
Question. Why the "S" in front of the numbers. Rebuild or common to the K dates?
