Questions On My New Addition

2 Attachment(s)
Hi All
I just received my 36 Mauser that I am going to restore and use as my " shooter ". A couple of concerns I have -

Grips are loose. Toggle does not stay in the fully opened position. Magazine eject button works to release the magazine but does not discharge the magazine as my other does. It looks as if the mechanism is not interacting with the button properly ( see attached photos )

I'm hoping these issues are considered minor. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks
Paul

The mag release spring is too short. It looks like someone either broke a sliver of one end and replaced it into its slot with the broken end trimmed and radiused, or they used a flat piece of steel to substitute for a lost original. Originals are not that silver color, they are heat treated blue.
A new spring from Luger Doc should fix that cheaply.

Don't worry about magazine drop. That may be a function of the bad mag catch spring, the loose grips or simply a mag that does not drop. Try a couple of others mags, once you replace the catch spring and remove the grips. Some mags drop in a particular Luger, others don't.

Loose grips can usually be tightened up by placing a really small "o" ring around each grip screw.

Your toggle not staying open may be a missing hold open or a bad hold open spring. Just the spring is a simple fix. A damaged hold open with a chipped edge will be a bit more expensive.
Everything on your list should be fixable for well under $100.

Thank You for the response!!! I was afraid I had got myself a good deal on a piece of junk and wasted my money. I am going to be having these repairs done as well as restore of the pistol ( grips re-checkered, re-blued, detailing, etc. ) Any recommendations as to a reputable place to have this done?

Thanks!!

Hi All
Now I am lost and in need of opinions on what to do. The pistol I just received that was mentioned above is intended to be my shooter but upon close examination tonight it seems that it is all matching including the magazine.

Is it still considered acceptable to restore an all matching Luger? Will it affect the value? Not sure what to do.

Those pictures look like it has been parked at one time.

The only thing that would restore that is a time machine! NO! Don't put another nickle in this pistol!
Does it shoot?

Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated!

I'm not sure if it shoots. I'll be sending it to the Doc next week and he is going to assist me with any repairs that may be needed and hopefully have me shooting at the range soon!
