1946 - Athens, TN. - About your 2nd Amendment
It is important to understand why the 2nd amendment exist.
I was completely unaware of this event that took place in Athens, TN in 1946. I did not know an armed revolt on American soil by WWII veterans ever took place during our lifetime. A very sobering video to say the least. Now the second amendment should be a little clearer to everyone. This movie is well worth the time. http://voxvocispublicus.homestead.com/Battle-of-Athens.html FIRST FACTS: Please do not delete this bit of US History of which many Americans have no knowledge. View it and share it and pray that we will never need such a response to government! </SPAN></SPAN> |
it is not the first time
After WW1 veterans were marching for their rights when the military physically removed them in DC |
This video I think all citizens should watch and I'm politicians hate seeing. Especially ones that are up to no good. We should be able to stand up for whats right in times like this one. Amen to the veterans in Athens, TN that day.

And that, my friends, is ultimately WHY we need to keep our firearms near and dear.

My mom's family is from Athens TN. In fact, my mother and father are buried there. I still have tons of relatives there and spent a good deal of my childhood there. I have never heard of this until now.
I still have two aunts that live there that would have actually been alive during that time. I will have to talk to them and see what they remember about it. My mother's brother was a WWII Navy Veteran there but he has been gone for quite a few years. The main topic of conversation I remember from the family there was of the Civil War. They were still having difficulties coming to the terms of that there during my childhood/teen years. |
Just a real quick note after some research. The reason that I had never heard of this from family was that we were on the wrong side of it. One of my aunts was still embarrassed about it. I had figured that since my uncle was a vet that we would have been with them but one of my great uncles was a hired deputy holed up in the jail.

Don't forget the only successful coup d'etat in US history:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilming...ection_of_1898 It succeeded basically because citizens were effectively disarmed. This story is also told in the fictional account "Cape Fear Rising". Marc |

Battle of Athens
I was 5 years old when the Battle took place...and just about all my relatives lived in Athens....my Grandfather was Station Agent for the Southern Railway Depot there for 55 years.....I can remember going up to visit right after the Battle...there was a hardware store next to the jail at the time....had wood floors....big windows on the side nearest the jail......there was a brand new pedal car sitting over by the window....I ran over to look at it....but stopped when I saw on the other side of it....a big pool of dried blood........thats my memory of the Battle.........
