Need some help ID'ing this Luger.
 

I have an S/42 SN.3188 with a "G" stamp on the top.

I have been told it is an Artillery Model, but the Barrel, Sights, and Front Stock are like nothing I have seen on another Luger, so I'm assuming they might be Custom?

The barrel is 12" Long. All numbers match, except for 2. One on the Locking Bolt and one on the Rear Toggle Link.

Pulling the front stock, shows a stamping of "C.Pingry" on the metal bar. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, AJ. Lugers in this configuration are generally referred to as carbine models (Arties have 8" bbls, Navys 6"), and came with a butt stock which attached to the stock lug on the rear grip. I can't see a lug in your pics, but one should be there. DWM made some around 1902, then assembled (made?) more in the 20's. Most were commercial, I think. Gunsmiths (e.g. John Martz) since have also reproduced this configuration. It seems to be an interesting niche to study, but generally expensive!

Other, better-informed members will chime in soon, I'm sure, to flesh out info about your pistol. In the meantime, we need more pics--full left, right , top, etc, plus shots of any markings, numbers, whatever it has. This will help figure out just what you have.

You have a custom made gun that someone unfortunately ruined a scarse "G" date Luger to create. The work seems nice. Is the barrel stainless or just in the white?

Do not attempt to add a buttstock to this pistol, as this would be illegal, since it is a modern "recreation" of a rare Luger Carbine.

Thank you for the responses. I'll tack on a couple of pictures of the sides and top. It's hard to get a decent Side pic because of the length of the gun, but I'll do shots of the frame only.

The barrell does appear to be stainless, and it does have the rear attachments for a stock, but it doesn't have one with it (Which I guess is fine, since I wouldn't want it to be illegal.)

The finish on the pistol itself appears to have been removed or polished to match it with the barrel, so the whole thing looks "white-ish"

OK, you got us...What kind of rear sight is that???

I have no clue. But it IS Ramped/adjustable. Now that I look at it, the 100 that I thought was a separate number stamping on the rear toggle link appears to be a range, as, if I press in the button on the right side and slide the sight back, there is a 200 under it.

Here are more pics of the rear sight.. And it does at least "appear" to be serial number matched to the gun.

It is a custom pistolsmith's version of a Navy back sight for the Luger. The work all around is nice and I'll bet it is a neat shooter. If it were mine, I would fill out the paperwork, pay the $200 and have a Registered Short Barreled Rifle. I would then have someone make a nice custom stock for it.

But be prepared for a VERY long wait on that paperwork...

It is taking time these days, but the advantage here is that you already own and can shoot the pstol while you wait to be able to legally put a stock on it.

A most interesting Luger carbine, to say the least. I, for one, like it a lot, and would be proud to have it in my safe. That has to be a hoot at the range.
