In re swiss lugers

Can Swiss lugers be purchased by the Swiss? They are truly beautiful! Their standards seem much higher than most other producers except for Kreighoffs! In addition most models are still reasonable. Eric~

Yes, though many, if not most, were exported, especially to the U.S.

Do lugers produced in Switzerland commend higher premiums?

drbuster 02-03-2013 04:43 PM

Asking prices are usually higher, usually IMO because they are in better condition.

Thank you. Another reason, they never fought in two world wars.

And they had a healthy refurbishing scheme as well.

The Swiss army has an interesting conscription system. People who do military service keep their service guns in their home, together with a can of sealed ammunition for wartime / mobilization emergencies.

When their service was over, pistols could be bought by them. These pistols were privatized by striking a P. in front of the serial number.

I would add that their guns did not go to any war, and probably all their previous owners kept them in a collection after the military service, in fact when the owner left the Swiss Army they used to "privatize" the gun marking it with a "P" followed by the last two digit of the year. Recently I've seen a beautiful 1900/06 with a "P 34" marked almost on top of the serial number on the frame under the barrel ! :-(

So now we can call ourselves luky as we can easily find gorgeous LUGERS in almost mint conditions.
