newbie needs id / rough value help for estate sale
 

working on an estate sale, need help on how to list this piece and rough value.

what I know: DWM, crown n, serial 7612 "o" with all parts matched, except mag, which may just be too worn to see number.

9mm, 3 7/8 barrel, but you smart guys probably already knew that.

Year? general price? Let me know if you need something else.

Please double check your Luger to ensure it really is in 9mm Caliber. The vast majority of these commercial pistols were made in .30 Luger.

Use a #2 pencil. If it doesn't fit or fits tightly down the muzzle it's a .30 Luger pistol.

If it fits loosely into the muzzle it's 9mm.

This is most likely a .30 Luger Alphabet Commercial Luger from 1924.

If so, it would be worth about $700 if all matching and in original finish.

does it say Germany anywhere on it? (that is an export marking by germany) and does the extractor, the part on the front of the toggle say anything (pull up gently with thumb nail from front)

A commercial like this in 9mm is not as common as a 30 luger but the value would not be a lot higher.

do all interior parts match? although commercial, I assume it went into military service

def 9mm, #2 slides in and out. Pretty certain on the "o" suffix after looking at charts and comparing. When I put the two stamps together I'm about 95% on "o".

I'll check the toggle when I get back home.

sorry, forgot your other question. I've taken it apart completely and everything has a "12" on it.

Does it have a stock lug on the back?

No stock lug on this gun... can't tell from these photos if it was originally like that, or if it was ground off...

typical "GELADEN" on extractor, no lug on back, and if somebody ground it they did some crazy cover up work. metal at butt end is smooth is baby skin.

Not if that stock lug has been growned off. Detract about $200 to a collector.

gotcha. after closer exam, I'm saying it was removed. love to know the story behind that....

After the 1934 NFA law passed, many people erroneously believed it was illegal for their pistols to have the provision for adding a stock. They growned off the stock lug in an effort to be in "compliance".

The law never required stock lug removal.

Id say 25 or mebbe even 26. If that was the case it should be .30 the pencil test can be tricky dont know if its a certain brand of pencil or what but my .30 luger alphabet serial 1080p (1926) was pretty lose on a pencil

why are there two nitro proofs?

If you have any doubts on the stock lug being ground or simply non-existant, post some good close photos. Makes a pretty big difference in value.

Lugers were more common in 30 luger during that time frame as exports, but 9mm could be purchased just as easily.

$600-$700 in 9mm as a shooter to a collector, the ground stock lug shoots it down...
