Broomhandle's Worth?
 

I went to the local gunstore today, and they had a .30 Cal Mauser C96 there. The gun isn't in the best shape, it is pitted just about everywhere, but still operational. The grips have been painted over and repaired. I don't know much about broomhandles, but what do you all think would be a good price for one?

From the shape you describe this one, I would say it is worth next to nothing. It isn"t collectable, and in that shape I wouldn"t want it as a shooter. There are plenty of then around. They run from about $250 to thousands.

Thanks for the info. I guess I wouldn't buy a Luger in that condition, so I'll pass on the Broomhandle. (at least this one:) )

Chinese Brooms
 

The Chinese dumped a huge number of brooms on us a few years back. Condition was usually NRA TERRIBLE. Many have been fixed up/rebored/reblued/regripped/etc but have almost no value on the market.

I picked up a broomhandle a few years back. I paid too much for it, it was worn out, the collector value was zero, and I'm lucky I didn't hurt myself with it. But I just had to have one. I don't have it now. Borrow one a few days, or ask a buddy to let you shoot one for a while. The thrill is short lived. Get a good one, pay what its worth, and let the bad ones rest. Unless you can get it real cheap.

About 4 years ago, I picked up one of the imported Brooms with all matching numbers, very good mechanical condition, but about 40% blue, and a worn barrel for $150. It is a mid/late 1930s manufacture since the S/N is in the 9xxxxx range (dont have the full number with me). There are no Chinese or other country markings so I am not sure where it was imported from. This is one I would not hesitate to shoot, but most I have seen are in BAD condition and the selling price now is about $250-300. There is a guy named Gene who advertises in the "Gun List" for reworked Brooms and they do look nice. His prices rebuild are in the $500-600 range. A friend of mine has a couple of them and they look new, good job of rework, but are not matched parts.

Saw a Chinese made broom that was stamped Wauser. Apparently they got their M upside down.

I think they did it on purpose,
 

they did it to try and bypass Trademark Violations, you see lots of Belgium copies of Colts, I've got one that looks real, but isn't.

I saw a MAUSERIN, once [Either from China or Afghanistan area] ...awfully poor machining...no lock mechanism ..and it was chambered for the 7,62x25!


No way would I have shot that sucker!
