Question about VoPo Luger proof
I am not interested in buying the Luger (certainly not at that price), but I would like to know about the prof mark.
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=327357312 Okay picture #7 The right hand side of the receiver near the barrel is stamped "P M P" Anyone know what that stands for? |
found this on Jans board dated 2012 with no responses
"The exact meaning of the PMP marking is still unknown but there is some speculation on its meaning Police Mecklenburg Pommern but no proof has yet surfaced to its validity". now Im curious if its in world of lugers by Costanza the p38 forum explains it as a PVP symbol but after seeing your pic it is PMP on that one as well heres the link to that pic http://www.p38guns.com/LugerPVP.htm |
Or it could be that the owner forgot to add the "I" in PIMP.TH
|
ha , that was my first thought.
the only other thing I found on the web was the proletarian military policy . P.M.P but.... |
There are early post-WW2 marking instructions that can explain the presence of large markings like these. The allies agreed to avoid rearming German police officials with captured German equipment, but if there was a need to reuse German equipment it had to be clearly marked as being issued with allied consent.
So this is probably a pistol that was reissued early after WW2, after which it went through the DDR refurbishing program almost a decade later. |
One of mine is so marked on the front strap.
