1939 "x" block "42" code Luger
 

This Mauser Luger followed me home this weekend from the Raleigh (NC) gun show (yes - the one on the news this weekend).

It's original finish condition (not much blue left on the frame lower) is probably at around 80%, and it's nice and smoothly tight as these Mauser Lugers are.

It's all matching with unnumbered grips and came with an Erfurt magazine with the wooden base switched out (it's blank).

It's a E/655 E/655 TP proofed receiver with a E/63 accepted barrel.

The frame s/n is one of the most uneven die strikes I've seen. 4451x. The frame's characteristics are correct for a 1939, and I don't think it's been fooled with. The frame front length is correct, and properly square and even to the barrel and receiver.

Has anyone ever seen this uneven a set of serial numbers?

Mine is also an "x" block, 1939 "42" code but with a three-digit serial number (500x). The serial number on the front of the frame is slightly crooked on mine as well. Additionally, the two digits on the center toggle link are slightly misaligned. All of the rest of the numbers look spot on.

Maybe we both have pistols produced on a Monday.....;)

There was a new WaffenAmt inspector (E/655) in this period. I wonder if things got lax in the factory when he came on-board.

There was nothing about the Raleigh gun show in the local news/paper here...What happened???

There was an item that a gun show in Albany NY drew no protesters...That's the NY State capital... :rolleyes:

A week ago, the Raleigh Gunshow experienced a negligent discharge when an attendee uncased and accidentally fired a shotgun at the inspection desk. Three people were hurt, and the show was shut down.

Makess you wonder if incidents like this are just caused by the huge numbers and variety of people attending gun shows these days or if there are anti-gun "plants" in the crowds trying to stir stuff up. :confused:

We actually looked the individual up, and found that he had a history of DWI / Alcohol violations... Probably an irresponsible person, and a true accident.

The problem, of course, is how all this reflects on the vast majority of responsible gun owners and show participants... Especially as the press gets into reporting a story like this.

Accidental discharge..?
 

..I went in a Gun Show here in Murfreesboro this past Fall....and the guy in line ahead of me had a WW2 Bolt action rifle....I think it was an Enfield........the guy at the "checker desk" said he had to make sure it was unloaded........well....the owner of the rifle got real huffy with him about it...got a bit loud and said he had handled firearms all his life....etc...etc...etc...but he grumpily handed the rifle over.....as soon as the bolt was pulled back....live round popped out.....and there were more in the magazine........his reaction.????....."Wallll Ive never seen such a thang before....I didnt load it.".........so......there are dummies everywhere.......and it does happen.....
