1917 Navy - Opinions Please
6 Attachment(s)
It's been forever since I've been on this forum. I joined a long time ago when I bought My run of the mill Luger.
I just found out my friend has a 1917 Navy Luger that he wants to sell, (I'm not interested), and I'd like the forum experts to take a look at some pics and let me know what they think. I've read the sticky about fake 1917's, and printed it out for him so he can inspect it himself, but any input you experts could give would be greatly appreciated. |
Hi Clarence, You can tell your friend he doesn't have a 1917 Navy, he has a 1917 Artillery.
Regards, Norm |
Doh! I guess you can tell what I know about Lugers. :o
Any idea what it's worth? |
Kind of a tough market, but I see shooters (mismatched, refinished, or both), going for around $1250. Matching numbers guns around $2000-$2500. Any holster, etc? Matching mag? Etc. I'm not sure what the Germany marking will cost your friend.
We'd need more photos and info. before we can get much more specific. dju |
No holster or matching mag. All he has is the gun. It's numbers matching except for one piece. You can see the mismatch in pic three right in the center.
He claims his father brought it back from the war. The mismatched piece was replaced by a gunsmith. The original was broken, according to him. I appreciate the help. He wants to sell it to buy several Glocks... to each his own I guess... |
Looks like a nice gun, too bad about the mismatched part. A lesson to those of us who feel the uncontrolable urge to shoot our old guns...
I guess he could start by asking $2k, but be ready to come down, maybe to the $1600 range? All depends on how fast he needs/wants to sell. dju |
He said he had an offer of $2000.00, but wanted to shop around a bit to see if he could get more.
Again, thanks much for the input! |
I'm thinking that if it were mine and someone was dangling $2k cash in my face, I'd take it in a heartbeat.
Interested if others disagree with the numbers I've thrown out. dju |
why does it have an export mark?
|
Maybe a military surplus item bought up by a wholesaler to be sold in the USA?
