Lugers for Sale?
 

I am not an expert on Lugers but I have read everything I can get google searched on the internet and in my quest to find a Luger I have noticed that 50% (that might be high) of the people that have Lugers for sale have some where in there ad "rare" which just in my reading of the internet and this fine forum that what they have isn't as rare as they think or as rare as they want you to believe it is. I guess I am a little old fashion but why do some people try to deceive the uneducated or are they just uneducated on what they are trying to sale?

Probably both. Ever try to buy a plain old GI .45? Seems that every one of those things has some rare marks that the seller is absolutely convinced makes it worth 2x the normal amount.
That is why we recommend lots of books, research and advice BEFORE you plunk your money down.
Luger sellers, at least these forum members, seem to be way above the average horse trader, but caution, education, etc, is still advised. And demand a 3 day inspection period.
One example is that I just bought an undated P08 with military numbers and no acceptance or proof marks. Rare? Yes, very. Worth more? Dunno. Probably depends on the buyer's opinion. Time will tell.

to the average person, lugers are rare, but when you get around groups like these and start looking for them, you see them all the time :)

Every gun show guy thinks that they have a 2-3 thousand dollar luger, very seldom is that true; I see the same lugers for sale at those tables for yrs on end...

At our area gun shows, a few dealers or private individuals bring mismatched and low condition Lugers for sale regularly. They are universally overpriced, and not negotiable.

They do eventually succeed in selling them to somebody, and (in fact) cheat them because they are not worth the prices asked.

There is a higher learning curve involved with evaluating Luger pistols in all their variations and conditions. If you invest the time, you'll avoid making most mistakes.

The last one I remember seeing was a mismatched lP.08 Artillery Luger in poor (pitted) finish condition that the seller was asking $3500 for.
