Can anyone help me on this one? is it real or a replica? looks to be very old ,the hilts are alloy and look like they were plated at one time. thanks

The RZM looks good and the wear and tear looks good too which explains alot for the loss of plating...a bit too much for alot of value. I take it, it's without a sheath?

padredan 01-13-2013 01:12 PM

yes, perhaps a value?? I need to make an offer on it if it is real

With no sheath and in that condition, $250-300.00. You can find good to very good SA daggers with sheaths, $550.-$650.00. Some people ask more but unless there is something historical about a certain piece...that's around the going price now.

padredan 01-13-2013 01:53 PM

thank you it's a real one then

From your photos, I would say, yes.............RZM proofmarks are nice to have, more than the usual maker marks. RZM marked Walther PP's go through the roof on prices because of the RZM.

Run a search on RZM proofed SA daggers and see what pop's up.

$250-300.00 YIKES! The only thing left of any value might be the grip..Two ways to look at this..most collectors wouldn't want it period. Condition is paramount with daggers as with anything else. Secondly..if it can be had for 50 bucks that's one thing. $300? Without the scabbard? Bad economy. No way I would pay that. I am a dagger collector and I wouldn't want it laying around. I would have to look at it.

You can see the shape this one is in:

The RZM maker's mark is:

M7/13

Artur Schuttelhofer & Co

Solingen - Wald

Perhaps it did look as this one does when it was issued:

Edwin, I wouldn't want the $250 dagger on Wittmans site either! Even though it has a scabbard and hanger. I am not a 100% condition collector but I am not a rusted 5% collector either..

The second so called mint dagger Wittman has for $2500 looks funny to me on quite a number of counts..the tip looks dull, the scabbard looks like a re paint and the handle is badly chipped.

The RZM daggers were second string..they cheapened them up, plated zink crossguards instead of solid nickel and they are not nearly as nice or coveted as the earlier dagger, Gau and maker marked.

Like I say..$50 tops for me and that's because it has a nice wooden handle from what I can see. Might not be as nice in hand. I would rather save my money and get a fairly decent/complete example.

Nor would I. I'm surprised to see the prices for SA daggers have drop so much over the years. They were cheap back in the 60s and 70s (in Germany) compared to what they were in the 80s and 90s.

This one above has seen better days but with some proper cleaning, it could have cleaned up a bit, especially the blade. You have to admit, the dagger compared to the one on Wittmanns is in better shape.

I'm not into daggers anymore, that's why it's surprising to me to see them so low in value.

I've noticed something else also, getting an SA/SS dagger at one time was the thing and nice police bayonets were not, it seems now the police bayonets are worth more than a normal everyday issue SA dagger.

Late war dagger. Blade is in poor condition. Missing scabbard I would off no more than $100 and if that is rejected I would walk and not think twice about it, These are a very common dagger and it wouldnt be hard to find another.

Mines a brown SA RZM with M7/91 marked. Scabbard and leather belt hook still attached, and blade still in green cosmolene....

alanint 01-15-2013 07:43 PM

Late war RZM daggers are the most common. As mentoned, a $100 value. Maybe $125-$150 if you really, really wanted it. Finding a loose scabbard is going to be a challenge.

padredan 01-16-2013 12:19 AM

He thinks it is worth 400.00, i said no thanks . end of that deal
