Luger Holster
5 Attachment(s)
I recently acquired a 1918 DWM luger with a holster. The holster does not have any type of markings that I can find and I wanted to know if there was a way to find out if it was from the same period. It also has a couple of places were the stitching is coming loose and was wondering about how much it would cost to repair it. The pistol is a shooter and I do not want to sink to much into the holster, as it will just sit in my safe. Any help would be appreciated. I have posted some pics.

Jeff..Your holster is of the same period as your pistol..IF there are really no markings it is likely a civilian/commercial. Military holsters were marked with a maker and a date. This holster could have been made give or take during 1908..doubtful maybe a little later..1910-11 to as late as the mid 1920's. They stopped this design around 1926.
These as well as most if not all German Luger holsters pre 1945 were made with linen thread. Linen is a thread/cloth made from the flax plant. Being a plant fiber leaves it vulnerable to changes in it's condition due to moisture, bugs, and stress among a long list of things that weaken or destroy it. Your holster has the stitching torn out of the tool pouch, the top is coming off and the lifting strap is gone. From the looks of it..the stitching could give way on almost any area or part. Weak stitching like this likely goes throughout the holster..The belt loops might be at risk, loose or broken at the top. You are looking at about $125.00 for an accurate restoration of the stitching problems I can observe and the pull-up strap replacement. It could also use a little lanolin on the outside to maintain it and keep it from cracking and deteriorating. I am always on the lookout for damaged or parts holsters. If you have an inclination towards a sale rather than repair let me know. Hope this helps! |
Thanks for Info

I wanted to thank you for the information on my holster. I plan on keeping it and will be in touch in a month or so to find out about get it repaired. I wanted to know if you plan on replacing all of the thread, I figure it all needs fixing. Also the strap you mentioned, on the inside of the holster they left about 4 inches of leather on one of the belt loops, can it be used to repair that so it would all blend nicely? Also was curious about value, now and when repaired. Like I mentioned, I plan on keeping it, just curious. I attached a pic of the extra leather inside to give you an idea. Thanks again.
