Very New Collector Opinions Needed

Thanks for all the comments !!!!! Ron

Very nice, complete rig. Better photos of the top of the gun would be very helpful. In general, asking price for the rig is about $200-$300 too high, mainly because of the poor finish left on the gun.

Hi Ron, Welcome to the forum! I have reservations about this rig. The two magazines look correct, the tool is the wrong shape for Third Reich, I would need to see more photos of the holster, the back and the inside of the lid, and finally, the gun has condition issues, particularly on the left side of the frame. In short, I don't see $2,600.00.
Regards, Norm

Ron, The holster is a $29.00 fake.

I have found a dealer that says that is what he has he bought it right from the grandson...

Your dealer has some splainin to do! Either he's a big fibber or...no.. he's a big fibber.

I would bet a sizeable sum that the tool is fake too..2! count em 2! red flags already..Danger Will Robinson! DANGER!

Thank-you Guys I really Appreciate the opinions and I do know what danger means....Here is the dealers response to all the questions I asked him....

I WILL GIVE YOU TO SUNDAY TO MAKE A DECISION. TRUST IS A BIG THING WITH PURCHASING GUNS OFF THE INTERNET.YOU WILL HAVE TO TRUST ME AND MY JUDGEMENT.

So needless to say I won't be doing business with him I will continue looking and Thank-you again for your comments on my almost bad move......Ron

Hi Ron, After 1926 Luger holsters were constructed so that the back of the holster also formed the back of the magazine pouch. On earlier holsters it was separate. The 1942 dated holster you show should have the post 1926 construction. There are other errors too, but this is the most obvious. The first picture shows an early holster, the second a late one.

I trust that your dealer is so stupid he doesn't know his fake holster puts a very large hole in his story. He has some chutzpah talking about trust when so far... he appears to be either an idiot or a crook. Likely both.

Good catch on the holster, Jerry. I missed the lack of cant to the belt loops and the spurious waffenamps.

This is what happens when you post from work!

lugerholsterrepair 01-11-2013 07:11 PM

Doug..you don't let work interfere with this stuff do you? HAHA!

Thanks Norm for the very clear differences in the two styles. It's all about the details.

What are the 2 holes in the belt loops for on the early holster?

Or is that a field "modification"

lugerholsterrepair 01-11-2013 07:34 PM

Gary, Of the many holsters I have observed with holes in the belt loops they could be from almost anything you could dream up. Parts taken and made from other leather straps, holes to hang it on a wall..the list is really endless. There is no official reason or common denominator to indicate any pattern I know of.
Sometimes there is only one hole in one loop..I have seen it all but don't know why except for holes from rivets.

Thank-you very much for the pic's it makes it easier to understand when you can see the difference...I knew this would be a good place to get my questions answered and to start learning about collectable guns... Ron
