P08 Luger
8 Attachment(s)
I posted a thread yesterday about my new Luger. It is a matching number pistol, Serial #4961, and a 1918 and 1920 on the barrel top. I had one reply asking for more info and I field stripped the gun and saw what appears to be a N with a circle and some other proof marks. There also is what I think is an H under the serial number on the bottom of the barrel. It also says Gesichert under the safety lever. I would like any info on the pistol i can get. I also have a holster that looks original but does not have any markings. Any way to tell if its original. It is missing something off of the front, theres a small slot that had something in it. I have included some pics this time, maybe that will help.

Hello
I think your suffix under the serial nr is an k. Regards Kai Norway |
Hi,
Your full s/n is "4961k". The missing part of the holster is the pull up strap. This can be repaired, and we have an excellent member (Jerry Burney) that does this work. The Circle N is an internal DWM manufacturing inspection mark, and is expected on this vintage Luger . Marc |
Thank for Info
I wanted to thank you for the info on my pistol.

Your Luger was manufactured in 1918 and issued to the German Imperial Army that year.
After the war it remained in use with the Weimar Republic and received the "1920" property stamp. It seems, from the first picture that ihas the sear safety, which was installed around 1933-34, and indicates Police service. It may have a unit mark on the grip strap. Looks like a nice Luger, congratulations. Douglas. |
Sunday is always a slow day for replies

Thanks Douglas. So the safety was added later. I will look at th strap when I get home and see about anymore markings. I also saw somewhere a list of places that should be marked with the serial number which included the grips. Should both be marked? Mine only has one side marked and it appears to be a different 4 digit number. I will post some pics soon because I am not sure what it says.
