1900 American Eagle take down lever

According to books that I've read, the last two digits of the serial number were stamped on the right hand side of the take down spindle. These where stamped on 1900 models up to serial number somewere around 7000. After that they supposedly stoped.

I have a 1900 American Eagle with a serial number of 84xx, with the last two digits stamped on the right hand side. The number stamps match the other numbers on the gun.

Has anyone else come across this or seen one.

Thanks,

Bob

Seems to be an unknown at this point!

I am not to strong on 1900's but I seem to remember a thread about this very subject as it related to the test eagles! It seems that there is a lot of controversy, and overlap, as to how and where these levers were numbered? Some of the early Luger collectors will have to give this question a go! till...later...GT

By "right hand side" do you mean the side closest to the frame, and thus hidden when the gun is assembled? My 1900 American Eagle, # 13499, has 99 stamped on the bottom of the lever, visible as you look at the gun from the bottom, where the lever rod goes into the frame.

Hi Dwight,

My last two digits are stamped on the very end of the take down lever. If you were going to put the lever back in the pistol. It would be on that section first going into the frame. You would see the number from the right hand side of the frame.

Thanks for the reply,

Bob S

Mr Peppers,

Now were getting closer. The full Number is 8478, if you want to add this to your records.

Thanks for your help,

Bob S.

My 1900 US test Eagle #6966 has 66 on right side [end] of lever.

CORRECTION!

When I gave the two serial numbers recorded as having the serial number on the round end of the takedown lever, I got off by a line and the two numbers in the 8400 range were 8461 and 8498.

Mine is numbered military style on the flat of the take down as seen from the side plate side of the gun. #7138. My number stamps also match the rest of the gun plus I bought it from Bob Simpson as real, so it must be so.
