Passing of a real hero

1 Attachment(s)
My father passed on New Year eve. I know that none of you knew him but I wanted to post something about him and knew that here he would get the respect he deserves.

Doug Waali was a retired Major in the USAF. He was in combat through all the cold war conflicts from Korea through the 80's. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross while in Vietnam.

Doug was a forester and Ranger for the Olympic National Forest prior to joining the service. He was also one of the founding members of the Olympic Mountain Search and Rescue and had the honor to name 3 of the mountains in the Olympic Range for being the first to break trail, climb, and map The Sea Urchin, Ragamuffin, and another mountain whose name escapes me.

After his term of duty he drove for the Spokane Transit Authority for over 20 years earning a spot on the Washington Department of Transportation Hall of Fame for his safety record.

My dad is my superman; faster then a running hoodlum, more powerful then a KC-135, and able to leap tall mountains in a single climb.

I love you daddy and miss you dearly.

My sincere sympathy to you and your family. I served 15 years in a flying squadron and for all intents and purposes they were my family. My prayers are with you.

It is a poverty that our nation has lost another man as fine as your father. We thank him for his service to us all, and you for telling us about him.

May God provide comfort to you and your family in this great personal loss.

Linda, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.

As some of this pain subsides, I am confident that you'll remember details of the relationship you had with your Father. The good things come back to us, and sustain us into the future.
