First time shooters
5 Attachment(s)
Today my two grand children got to shoot for the first time. haely is 12 and Luke Daniel is 6, today was their first live fire. Using a cz 452 scout and a sig 522, both in 22lr. As cold and damp as it was , they did not want to sease fire. Their first , and we all know it will not be the last, Now somebody tell me again how guns are bad.

Good for you and the kids plus you picked the perfect single shot, the CZ 452 Scout.

How similar are the CZ-452 rifles to the WW-I and WW-II Mauser action trainers made in Germany?
A friend has one of those (GeCo manufactured) and it's a really fine .22LR rifle. This one looks to be in the same class... Marc |
excellent Padre!! Well done !@!
Steve, love the wood on your CZ! |

CZ452 rifles have a following, that is for sure. If you ever get a chance be sure and look at the 452. There are still a few out there, CZ saw fit to discontinue it and replace it with the 455. Bad mistake on their part. Here is a full stock, notice the tangent rear sight. |

Thanks to every one, I have had that cz stored for them for years, actualy it's a repeater, but it did not come with a magazine and i havn't aquired one yet, the cz is now a family heirloom as it the first gun they fired. Luke took more to the sig .22 auto, it may not be policaly correct for him , but all he knew was it was fun.

only one way to learn to shoot, thats to go and shoot. I am lucky ,that i can still go out and shoot and take my grand kids out in the woods to shoot ,not alot can. I never thought i would see the day i could not find .22lr ammo and had to trade for it .

I like the Minkey hat :)

I need to get the adapter and a mag for this one, but it seemed to work just fine without one that day, that rifle is really acurate for it's size. I do not think i could have chosen a better one.

Padre,
You're starting them right. Here's a picture of my 14 year old granddaughter with my Ruger. She pays attention, learns quick and her eyes are SO much better than mine! Regards, Gunny John |
outstanding and you get to shoot inside/lol
|
Nice little folk here!
I understand their thrill as the CZ rifle is really beautiful. I like its classic outlook. The secret, IMHO, is to teach them to treat guns with respect and care. Douglas. |
That's too early to get them shooting.6 years old., that's the same as letting a 16 year old get a driving permit.I did not let my Daughter get a learners permit till she was 18 years old and am thinking about taking her shooting, maybe?
|
Says who? A six year old under adult supervision is no more likely to mess up than a 10 year old. It is never too early to get a young person interested and enthusiastic about the shooting sports. It is always in a case by case basis. If your six year old shows interest and aptitude, go for it!

I started my daughter at 5 years old under TIGHT supervision. It was something we did together for all the time she was growing up. For her 21st birthday I gave her a cased nickel Colt Python. The solid oak case (made by me!) has a brass plate engraved;
"Ride hard, Shoot straight, Speak the Truth and Dread Nought but the Wrath of God." She's 37 now, with a daughter of her own, and is the director for four group homes for severely physically and mentally handicapped adults. It depends upon the kid, the parents, (not me, but my wife, obviously!), the grand parents, the environment, the discipline and the goals,...and, of course, the love. And obviously, if one feels it's not yet right for their kid, that's a good call. It probably isn't right yet. (Goodness, is that a rant? :soapbox: I do apologize.) Best regards to all, Gunny John |
No sir you made a statement and i fully agree with it. My gran chidren were allready versed in gun safety, my son and his wife , choose to let me be the one to let them shoot for the first time, as it should be and we allso choose their recently deceased grandmothers birthday as the date for them to shoot the first time under close adult supervision. Of course the picture of luke and my sig 522 was not politcly correct, but you know what, we be texicans.

I started shooting when I was 6 years old. I started my youngest daughter when she was 5 on a Stevens Marksman. She still loves to shoot that rifle.

This hangs in my son's bedroom. He is 5 in this picture (now 15yrs old) with my wife's father. He is shooting his mom's Sears single shot 22 given to her at about the same age. The rifle became his.
