Value of mint Arisaka 38 carbine?
Great Uncle Henry was in the 1st Marine Division and picked it up off the beach in the Phillippines. Mum on top, all matching, looks like was never fired, and wood just has a few bumps. I added both a bayonet, and dust cover. Through online research, its Nagoya arsenal, Series 2 serial 40542. Only other question is to the right of the Nagoya arsenal symbol is a "o" with what appears to be a box above and to the right of that.

Steve,
$200-$350 - depending on originality and condition and series number. Any further info on this, it would make a nice addition to vol IV of my bring back books |
Thanks for the info...I ask the value because my Great Uncle Henrys grandson turns 18 this year, so the carbine will go to him - I have been the steward of it since Henry died about 10 years back. All I know is that Henry picked it up the day of the landing in Leyte Gulf. I would be glad to send pictures of it if interested.

As a dealer, I sell that carbine on GB for about $700/800+. Arisaka's are going up now.

According to MROJ a series 2 would be Kokura. Nagoya would be series none,4,5&6.
Post pics if you can, it would be interesting to see. |
Will do...I saw that info as well, but the stamps on the reciever are clearly the fighting fish of the Nagoya arsenal and what looks like the the series 2 stamp although the series 2 and 4 stamps are so similar, it could be a series 4....Eyes just arent what used to be I guess

I will buy a boatload of these for $350.
I recently sold a g-vg with faded finish, dark stock with some charring for $450. It had Mum and Rod. Covers worth $50 or more. If as described, $700 pretty easy. Neat little rifles. I remember the days when they all but paid you to take them away. |
well, sorry, I could not get those amounts when I sold a 6.5 a couple of years ago.

I don't think you are wrong Ed. You were correct on the value. David
