In the personal security classes I teach, I go over situational awareness in parking lots and other public places.

It's best to be on "yellow" level alert at all times. That means you're aware of your surroundings; who is present and take action when you feel uncomfortable for any reason. "green" level would mean you're oblivious to your surroundings - which is how many people go about the world...

Anytime I see words like "Keep this going and tell all of your family and friends" I immediately do a rumor/scam check with snopes or other similar website... Good Catch Marc.

Even if it were true.. I have to say my first reaction is always a bristling to " tell your wives and daughters" or "especially women" etc.. am I the only woman here? Do you think that women do not look at their car before getting into it? Does no female besides myself always look at tires and windows as walking up to the car (maybe my family is the only people that live an hours drive from the closest gas station?) Do not small stature men deserve to be made aware of these things? Even big guys act mind-numb is a good looking women were to walk up to them (as she flips an asp upside his head). I would be more worried about my dad getting jacked (if he could still drive) then my mom.. mom is on oxygen and would swing her bottle at the poor fool who would jump her. I suppose we are lucky that most men forget the tempers of women and as such think of them as weaker or less protected.. if they remembered our tongues, tempers, and ability to react, we would all be single.

We also want to avoid shooting those people who go around sticking fliers under our windshield wipers, annoying as they are....
