I recently purchased what I think is a 1920's commercial model in .30 Luger.

I think it is one of the alphabet series, but I'm not sure just what that means.


Anyway I have a couple of pictures.

Serial number on the front of the frame and the bottom of the barrel is 2026. 26 is visible on several of the various parts including the back the the toggle mechanism below the rear sight, the side of the "bolt?" , the take down lever.

There is a Crown N on the frame ahead of the trigger plate, and on the underside of the barrel.

On the barrel also is the serial number, and a small cursive K
The K is also located below the serial number on the front of the frame.

The gun came with a unblued magazine. Issue? and a blued probably aftermarket mag.

I have always wanted a Luger since I got an aluminum one probably intended as a holster form when I was about 12 yers old.

Stumbled onto this one in a pawn shop for what I hope was a reasonable price. Now I want to know I have acquired.

Yes..the mark of a commercial pistol.

Value, well, how much did you pay? 7.65mm lugers can be $750-$1600 if in mint condition... most closer to 1k

Sorry for the quality of the last one. Was gonna take another and my batteries pooped out.

Roll marks on the barrel are Crown over N
Serial number. Same as on the frame
and the small "K"

Crown over N on the surface ahead of the trigger plate.

Only other markings visible are the last two digits of the serial number on various parts.

Wow, lots of information available about Lugers. The more I read the more I am intrigued by this gun.

I had no idea it was as old as it is. Other than various black powder guns etc., this is the oldest gun I have acquired.

Durn it, looks like I'm in danger of a new addiction.:rolleyes:

Mag on left..blued is a Triple K aftermarket shooter mag. $25 mag on the right is a period original. Any markings on the bottom of the wood? Bad thing about it some Bubba put in an extra pin and pretty much buggered it up with what appears to be solder?
Last pic shows nice halo's around the serial numbers indicating original finish.

Thanks for the info. I was pretty sure the finish was original. I paid $735 OTD for it.
At least it looks like I didn't get "took" too bad.
No markings on the wood on the mag.

I looked at the data sheets until my eyes crossed. Anyway to narrow the manufacture date down a bit more for the "K" series guns?

Based on what you can see, what do you think it might be worth? Gotta write something down in the book for the family in case I croak tomorrow.:cool:

Assuming all the numbered parts match and the bore is shiny, $750 would be about top dollar with the new repro grips and one orig mag. Tom

According to Jan Still's Weimar Lugers, Alphabet DWM commercial S#2026k was made in early 1922.

Iggy, you will go into some shock when buying 30 luger ammo if you plan to shoot it.

Yeah, I found some on sale on the net for about $.40 cents a round.

I haven't made up my mind about shootin' the ol hoss or not.

Right now, honorable retirement seems appropriate.

Welcome to the forum. You acquired what appears to be a nice condition alphabet Luger. I also own one, and really enjoy it. The problem with these lugers is one leads to two, then three..... You can see the pattern developing here. Perhaps it won't happen to you, but it sure did with me, and I purchased my first one in 1971!!

Yeah, I am familiar with the pattern. Been there with S&W's. I fought it there and lost too.

The island on the side plate looks rather large compared to other lugers. I wonder if the side plate number matches the rest of the gun. Look on the bottom surface.

Doc, good catch. The sideplate appears to be of East Grman manufacture.
