loading tool purpose
 

Ok, I dont wanna sound dumb here, but I have been curious on how a loading tool works on lugers. Im assuming it helps load the ammo quicker in the magazine. My lugers dont have one so... Im jst curious.

As for how it works. How does it hold the spring down? I have been looking at my mags and the tool and Im lost. Maybe once in hand itll make since.

The little hole in the tool slips over the outside follower button and your thumb goes on the little upturned shelf on the tool. You can then press the button down with ease versus doing it without the tool.

Remember, every luger collection began with one luger like yourselve!

Now it makes since. It was always a pain trying to hold that button and load the ammo. Especially with a new magazine. Maybe now it it will be a little bit easier.

I definitly want one of the nazi era lugers with the eagle stamps on it. That may be in my future. Not that Im a nazi, but just cause of the history and downfall of that era of germany.

Need a tool myself.

Funny how these things grow on you unlike other pistols I have.

Are there any good suppliers of the tool? I've read that some of the repro ones are made of soft metal. Simpson advertises an unmarked original for $30. I'm just worried that if its unmarked how do I know its actually original? And is there somewhere I can get one for less than $30?

If one were to use the tool properly it could probably be made out of hardwood except for the grip screws. There is little strain on a loading tool actually. Especially for loading. It is necessary to get a tool with a flange in the hole that accepts the follower button. Without the flange the tool has nothing to grip..it hooks behind the button holding it on while it is pushed down.
It's other purpose is to rotate the firing pin out of the bolt. I always push in with my finger but the firing pin retainer has a slot for the tool.
The grip screws can be a bit sticky so that might break my wooden tool.. Almost any tool with a flange will work..I have seen them on eBay for $10-12 bucks?

I just looked at 6-8 offerings on eBay for cheap tools and I could not detect a flange on any of them. The all look to be made the same..some cheap Pakistany junk.

If Simpson't has a good one for $30 that's your best bet IMO.
