Boatload of Lugers on consignment - So Calif

Turners just took quite a few Lugers in on consignment - prices are pretty high. Mostly DWM and a couple of Mausers. This link changes weekly so take a look quick if $$$ are not an issue.

hmm seem overpriced

The 1906 Navy doesn't seem out of line. It is one of the guns listed by Costanzo in "World of Lugers". Regards, Norm

It sure seems to me that gun shops price all lugers fairly high, but about the same in value, across the board. With proper knowledge you then find some gems :)

Thanks for the link. I hadn't seen Turner's before. I have to add them to my Favorite Gun for Sale site list.

Turners is a well known chain store in the LA area is going to open up a new store here in my area at San Luis Obispo CA.

I particularly like their listing for the Mauser Luger at $3950:

This Is A 1918 Mauser Luger
Hungarian Banner
Cross Swords In Circle On Right Side
Blank Chamber
Very Unusual

- - - - -

I'll say "very unusual" since Mauser didn't put their Banner on Lugers until after 1933...

I saw the "1918" with the Mauser Banner in person today at Turner's. I told them it was mismatched and worth about $500...

I'm sorry, I'm new here and still at the beginning as far as rare/matching/clean Luger valuation is concerned. Those prices just seem defeating as far as collecting goes. Who wants a Bulgarian contract luger bad enough that they'll pay $4k for one? I don't know - just seems insane. I'm positive I'm showing my ignorance but man that blows my mind.

Ron Wood 10-22-2012 01:43 PM

The prices are indeed inflated in many cases but being an admitted beginner to Luger collecting, you are going to get your mind blown many more times I am sure. Rare variations command big bucks. Just like everything else, it is the law of supply and demand. Oh, and by the way, many folks think that Luger collecting is a form of insanity. :)

To expand on Ron's observation. stick to standard variants of the most common models, and you will do just fine as a novice on a budget. If you want something rare, you have to compete with serious collectors.

"Who wants a Bulgarian contract luger bad enough that they'll pay $4k for one?"

To some peeps $4k can be pocket change.

I think so, though it may be only a neurosis:crying:. Collecting and all it involves, even on a limited scale, is a feature in my life that certainly satisfies every obsessive/compulsive bone in my body. Once you get started, there's no such thing as too much--pics, info, discussions, etc., etc. The only thing that limits manifestations of this hunger is the BUDGET!:grr:

interesting - long ago I owned a mismatched erfurt with flatish grips and large flat checkerings - took it because it had a crossed sword in circle proof mark under the reblue with crown above and E and L left and right to the crossing blades , proof was on right front side of slide - I later parted it out - receiver on this one they offer looks way to crisp to have been the same slide

my best guess was maybe Erfurter Laden - maybe a rework
the price I paid was shooter level at the time

anybody know what the proof means ?

this is only the second instance for me in many years

thanks
Bill

I must be missing something...I don't see "Luger" in the listing; only DWM...and only 14 of them...
