Tapping for mysterious doo-hickey
During my daily perusal of onsite auction/sale offerings, I found this 1900AE http://gastatic.com/UserImages/172/9...wm_4377778.jpg with a similar hole at the bottom of the rear grip strap to the hole in the '06AE I bought last year. I presume this one is tapped, as well; mine arrived with a knurl headed thumb screw installed in the hole.
I believe these holes were drilled and tapped, retrofitting the pistols to hold a shoulder stock. We have seen board stock, and Ideal shoulder stocks, but I've not encountered a pic or description for this particular design concept for attaching a shoulder stock. Anyone know what one of these might have looked like? D.P. |
IMHO, too small a hole/screw for attaching a stock...
Were you thinking it could be for a lug like the P08??? (Cut the lug off a P08 and screw it on to attach the stock...) I still think not strong enough... |
Over the years I have seen a couple of M1900 Lugers with that tapped hole in the grip. I do not think a stock screwed directly into the hole but rather an elongated piece on the stock shaped to fit the lower part of the grip that was affixed by a knurled or thumb screw. That would give more bearing surface on the grip rather than a threaded thin rod with a butt plate on the end.
