1917 Luger information
 

Old Luger bought from an retired RCMP officer. Father gave it to him before he died. Is it worth anything? Is it just a run of the Mill Luger? Sorry, new to these pistols, and am looking to ask some professionals.

All the numbers match on the gun. Just some surface rust, and was easily cleaned away. Son was told that the father obtained it from a Submarine. I guess that would have been in the first World War. There are no Nazi markings on it, so it looks like it escaped Hitler and WW2.

Does anyone know where to get a new barrel for it? Slightly longer (1/2) inch then the stock one to register it as restricted in Canada.

I'm seeing a fairly common late war Erfurt in original condition. I'd guess around here it would bring around $1000, probably a bit less.
I'm a bit concerned with the way the toggle appears to be loose and off to the left side in the barrel extension receiver, with the extractor hitting the left side as it goes forward into battery. Looks a bit loose or otherwise damaged to me, but it could be the photo, or my eyes, or maybe they all do that and I never noticed. Or maybe because it is a late war Erfurt and they were in a bit of a pinch at the time.
Our own Luger Doc can suply a barrel, but keep the original and don't alter anything else such as the finish, or the value will drop markedly.
Careful non-distructive cleaning is in order too, but it is a nice looking old gun. Too bad about the Canadian laws.

The "off center" toggle is just a trick of the light. The way the shadow of the extractor cut falls, it liiks like its off center, but it is not.

Preferrable to obtaining a barrel, I would sell this to a registered collector in Canada, (who I believe may have the pistol in the original condition) and use the money to purchase a long barreled shooter.

I dunno. That toggle really appears to ride to the left with a gap on the right (first photo). And I see what appears to be galled metal on the left side of the port for the extracter tip. But again, may just be my eyes.
