Years ago I had 2 from an estate. The other one had a Berlin Olgee scope and initials 'HL' 'RZM' This insignia was remove post war for obvious reasons!

...???...What were the obvious reasons???... :confused:

In Mauser Small Bores a book which shows the Mausers used by the Hitler Youth for training. I bought it before my stroke and my memory is cloudy.Clearly there was something removed. The remaining two screw are still seated. The stolem ryfle had an isigna to the best of my memory (RZM-HY). It had a beautiful 'Olgee' Berlin scope and mount. You know more about this suject than I! I'm going sometime to find a proper scope!!

That patch on the stock is where the original sling was attached.
The stock has been "sporterized". Originally it would have had a full stock like a regular K98.
I have one similar that was made by Simpson.
Some of these could have been "bring backs" but most in this country were imported post-war and sold as sporting rifles.
Here's a shot of mine and a shot of an unaltered Simpson example.
Your Walther originally looked similar, with the full stock.
Imho, these "sportmodells" are about the finest example of a single-shot .22 rifle as you'll find. :)

The second rifle is a post WW2 Yugoslav M48 rifle, made on the same tooling the Germans left behind at the end of the war. The main difference from the German K98 is the full length upper wood handgaurd, which envelops the rear sight. The sling is correct with the characteristic multiple holes.

Cirelaw, does you Walther Sprotmodell have rails on the receiver for a scope? If it does, I may have a scope and mounts if you're interested.

Yes I owned 2, The other connected on the rail and had a beautiful 'Olgee, Berlin scope. One of my prior sold called friend stole the rifle while in my coma in Costa Roca!!! Please send me a PM Tks Eric cirelaw is Eric backwards and 'law'
