Locked and loaded commercial luger

I have inherited a very nice locked and loaded commercial luger, I had it inspected by a well respected expert and he said it iscomplete and original, with matching numbers, and in excellent condition. What I failed to ask him is which magazine is correct for it. It came with 2, both wooden bottoms, one with the work Germany on it and one with nothing on it. I have been told there were less than 2,000 of these made for US export, so it shoulod be qujite valuable...any ideas. Thanks, Ron

Ron, Welcome to the Luger Forum. What is the Calibur? .30 Luger? Ideas about what in particular? The proper magazine? Both of the magazines you mention would be proper.

Hi Ron, and welcome to the forum.

Please post pictures that have good details of all external markings and overall views. Take them outside using indirect (shaded) sunlight, a tripod and the self timer (to eliminate camera shake).

There are quite a range of commercial Lugers. We can probably help you learn more about yours.

sorry, not sure what a 'locked' and loaded luger is - I assume that it is made for the English market and has the word 'Loaded' that shows when it is loaded with a round.

Value would depend on if it is in original condition, if it is matching, etc

yes, of course, I just was blank in my mind, kept thinking of a 1911A1 as locked and loaded

It is actually called a Safe and Loaded, and it is a 1923 commercial that was made for US export. I have been told that there were about 2,000 made. It says safe under the safety, and loaded on the extractor. It is in excellent condition. I believe all of them were in 30 Luger, as this one is. It comes with a holster, but it is marked 1916, so is probably not right. So either of the mags would be correct? Thanks for any info you might be able to add. It looks like I may have to sell it. Ron

I have had it checked by an expert, and he says (and I believe him) that it is complete and original, with all matching numbers. Ron

Ron, can you post pics? I'd especially like to see the Safe and Loaded stampings (I've only heard of them).

Can you tell us who the respected expert is? One of us may know him...(You didn't put your location in your profile)...

Only 2,000 made? That's a small order; rare for sure.

i am in OLympia, WA, he was from Tacoma, but I don't remember his name. I will post some picts. Ron

Ron, I think your magazines are more or less proper. The Germany marked mag is good for sure..matches your pistol! The other with no serial number is too..proper for a commercial. It was mostly military mags that were serialed.
Your holster being dated 1916 is a Military.
Does your pistol have anything on the chamber like an Eagle?

Use the "Advanced Editor" and attach your photos using the dialog you launch from the bottom part of the editor input page.

Stoeger orded 2000 30 cal. Lugers marked SAFE and LOADED in 1920 for the US market. The approximate serial# range is 89700 to 91700. The newer more appropriate designation by Jan Still 'Weimar Lugers' is 20DWM. Kenyon's 'Lugers at Random' designated them 1923 Commercials. His researh and data is more than 40 years old now, well before the internet.
