1917 DWM Matching Value?
 

Hi Everyone, New on the boards.

I have a 1917 DWM with matching serial numbers except for the magazine which is an original but not matching. I have a hard time estimating condition of a 95 year old gun :/

Am I correct in my identification? Realistic value? Best way to sell if I decide to?

I ended up having to scan the gun for the attached pics. Tell me what you need a better picture of and Iwill find a camera that can take a better picture then my phone.. Alas, I don;t know anyone that develops film anymore.

About all I can tell you for certain is that the small parts should be straw colored but are instead blue, so the finish is not correct. And the finish looks oddly uneven, suggesting spots of cold bluing. I'm going to call this one a nice shooter and guestimate value at $750.

Thank for the reply! I will try to get better pictures because laying it on the scanner did make things look really uneven.
Most of the pics I see of other Lugers show the small parts as a purple-ish? Is this the straw colour it should have been?

If it is just a shooter then at least I get to shoot it! ;)

I have a handfull of old military guns that I am looking to sell and I don't know how to make sure I get a fair deal. Suggestions?

I have to go through the long guns also.. sigh.. I wish I could keep them all but circumstances say they got to go.

The trigger, takedown lever, safety lever and mag. release button should all be a golden brown color, a heat process rather than a chemical rust. The remainder of the finish requires better photos.

Have a friend bringing over a tripod and a good dslr in the next few days.. wil get better pictures!

Not sure I did this correctly.. but I made a public album with a couple dozen pictures. Whats the trick to getting interior and bore shots? Hope these help determine selling value and yes, I know (now) that the straw parts are not straw so that it is pretty much just a shooter.

I can't tell what the finish is on the trigger, TD lever, and safety, looks like bluing but it is sort of flakey, not even wear as per usual. Painted over? Anyway, other than that I see no problems. Just an old warhorse with a lot of history. I may sound like a broken record, but I'm seeing somewhere in the neighborhood of $1K there, maybe just a bit less. I don't know that I'd relegate it to a shooter, just because of those parts, as the rest appears unmolested.
Now lets hear some more learned opinions.

Awe, and I was so proud of the pics! ;) Did you look at the album pictures or the first set that is in the post? The first ones were done on a flatbed scanner so they are pretty bad.

I can try to make more pics tomorrow if anyone wants more.

Did the pictures in the album help? If I were to sell it here what would be a good fair price for both parties? Is it still $750? Or the $1000? If you need more pics then the ones in the album just let me know!

I think it is a decent, although worn finish and the strawing has simply faded to natural loss - bore pictures escape me when I try to take them, so no luck there

I would say I would be trying to sell it at a table for $750-$850 - depending on the magazine, perhaps a bit more. No offense, I call these a starter collectable.

My two cents

Remington 51 - depends on condition - lower quality the less value - mid-range is around $450-$500 (+ or - on condition)
Schmidt 1882 Ordnance - no idea, sorry
Enfield NO. 2 MK - not sure which variation - much depends on variation, (this is the rifle?) :) I was going to say caliber, but I assume that it has a date and such on it?

Reading some older posts and it got me thinking... I have always assumed it was a 9mm but now I am not positive. If a pencil fits (very loosly) then it is a 9mm... right?

And the Enfield No 2 Mk 1 mentioned way above is a revolver not a rifle. Very similar to the Webly but a few internal differances.
