dkk 44 P.38 holster. Reproduction
 

Gents I know this isnt a luger holster, But I have to ask,

Was at a local gathering this morning and picked this holster up. Price was good even for a repop.

The construction of this holster is dead on and I think it stands a chance. But the damn thing just looks to new to be original.

What do you think,

The poor stiching which joins the securing tongue to the holster flap would indicate a fake to me. The stitching in general is not up to parr.

The poor stitching was the first thing that I noticed also.....it is not a quality job.

Any other thoughts?

These are one of the more difficult holsters to detect fakes. Photo's make it doubly difficult compared to having it in hand. There are several things that bother me about it. I don't like the WaA under the P-38. Why wouldn't it be between the belt loops under the maker code? I also don't like the black paint on the underside of the closure stud or the rivet. The stitching isn't too out of normal for a late 1944 holster but I would want to closely inspect it and put a blacklight on it to see it it is really linen.
The one factor I would want to closely inspect is the profile of the closure stud. Wartime studs were machined with spiral lines around it..post war studs are cast. Look closely at the stud and see if it has casting lines down both sides.

Jerry, I looked at this post under magnification and there are clear signs of the spirals like it was turned on a michine.

Also I do not have a black light at this time but I did take a sample of the thread and do a burn test it left nothing but an ash behind.

For what its worth all of the other Dkk examples I have seen have the Waffen ampt in the same location under the P.38

Like I said i think it has a shot but would love to know your thoughts.

Wayne..It's looking better. The stitching looks good under the closure strap. If you have burned a piece and it turns to ash that's a positive sign. I am no expert on the markings..have you taken this to the P-38 site? There are a couple of guys over there that ARE experts on this. You might try that. They know a lot more about them than I do. I see a ton of them but mostly for repairs of some sort.

Jerry I tried to load it on the p.38 forum but I am having a hard time getting the sizing right to post pics. Like I said I picked it up for super cheap I thought it might be good but wouldnt be upset if it wasnt.

Well..It looks OK to me but I don't know much about them. I would keep trying or just make a post and direct link on your post to here where they can see photo's! Like this..

It is likely a correct Nazi hoster that came in from Russia 15 years ago. They painted the studs black. They were sold for about $100 each when they came in. All of this was discussed here or on the other forum some time ago. They are so minty it is scary, but they are real. Several hundred came in.

Your determination was also the same that i got on the P.38 forum thanks for your and Jerrys help. I knew i was taking a gamble but the gut feeling paid off for me, I have $30 invested n this.

I'll go right out on a limb here: This is an original holster in nice shape. No doubt in my mind.

Stitching was often less than perfect toward the end of the war.
