identify Luger
What type Luger would have a five digit serial number and no year of manufacture on the top where they are normally seen ?
|
Sounds like a Luger for the commercial market to me.

This isn't a smarty answer, it is called a five digit commercial :)
Seriously |
thank you
Is there a list of years & serial numbers like there are for the military Lugers ?
|
Commercial Lugers began production with the Model 1900, serial #1, soon after the Swiss military contract started. S#10000 (the first 5 digit commercial) was reached in 1901 shortly after the M1900 Test Eagles. Commercial S#'s continued with five digits reaching #92000 in 1921. Five digit Commercials can be M1900, M1902, M1903, M1906, M1908, M1913, and M1914. A guesstimated date of manufacture can found using Dwight Gruber's Commercial database.
