Retirement (well as a shooter at least)

1 Attachment(s)
As one said, in life some doors will close, but others will open.

Today I took a difficult decision, one that was due to happen at some time, but it came a bit earlier (and unexpectedly) due to other circumstances.

Health issues and the difficulties surrounding the local permit system made me decide that it was time to stop my active membership (and board membership) of our local sports shooting club. This will also mean that my sports shooting license will expire this year, so my last shooter will now retire into the collection for a much deserved rest :)

My trusty 1937 S/42 served me reliably for some 10 years and will remain in the collection, but no longer on active duty.

There is more than enough work to be done in the collecting area, research and translation work, as well as the hunt for 'fresh' archive material.

Sorry to hear about your "shooting retirement". I feel sure that you thought about it long and hard before reaching your decision. Time keeps moving on at a much faster pace than I like, but there doesn't seem to be anything that I can do about it. I just try to do as many fun things as I can while I am still able to do them. We will all reach these crossroads if we live long enough.

Gerben..Yes..sad to hear this. Time marches on for us all and changes must be made. Good luck without gun cleaning and buying ammunition!

Gerben, thats a shame, but as more of a collector than shooter, there is enjoyment in that too~!

Gerben,

A tough decision to be sure...

You know that when you visit the USA, you have a range, Lugers and plenty of ammo waiting for you!

Gerben,

Sorry to hear this. In sharing this profound decision, you've given all who love the sport pause to contemplate. First, to empathize with you and this milestone. Then to give thanks for the moments we may still have remaining as shooters. Thank you for sharing and opening this door for us all. +1, what mrerick said.

Some of us ... come out of "retirement" whenever we get the chance... If you make it to the Washington DC area... call me Gerben. If you have lost my phone number... PM me and I will replace it.

Best of luck on the new research endeavors... you are great at it... Give my best to Mauro when you see him...

That is what we in the USA have to look forward to under the Obama regime if we all don't stick together.--"Difficuties in the permit system" This is what "reasonable gun control" looks like under a Socialist/Marcist government. They will pick us to death with regulations until it becomes easier to just quit shooting! I don't know what country our friend is from, but all of Europe is about at that situation.
Hang together or we will all hang seperately!

Damn shame, Gerben. Best wishes in all your collecting and archiving activities. We hope you will continue to share your knowledge here.

Sorry to hear that difficult decision had to be made. Hunting for archived material must be equally thrilling and challenging and enjoyable.

If you ever come to Canada ...
