What do you guys think about this one? Looks to be all matching. I specifically want to know what you guys think about the finish. Original? Differing opinions welcome :D

Hi Josh, It's very difficult to judge finish in photographs; and particularly difficult to judge it in flash photographs.

The best rendition of tone in photos is captured when shooting using indirect sunlight (shaded light outdoors).

I have a 1939 42 code Luger 3/4 of the way into the "r" block that has a very thin finish that looks similar to your pistol. I have since seen others from this timeframe that look thin, and probably were a result of rushing the finishing process. My Luger is in original finish.

To determine more about whether it's matching, you need to look at interior parts like the firing pin, inside of the grips and inside of the trigger plate. The inside of the trigger plate should have the digits "66" assuming this one is s/n 6516?). Is the safety lever numbered "16" or "18"?

There is a fair amount of surface pitting visible on your photos.

As to the finish being original, I'm not sure but it looks like my 1939, and it could well be.

The left grip has the "million dollar chip" out of it, and the right one has some anomaly along the rear grip strap.

You lost me - why is showing pics of different guns in an attempt to elicit opinions a bad thing? I'm looking to start a modest collection and it would seem that asking the experts prior to a purchase would be a prudent thing to do.

I'll let Ed answer for hmself, but sometimes the members on this board feel like they get put on the spot, used by one side for ammo. to negotiate a better price. It inevitably causes one side or the other some hard feelings towards members who speak their mind.
I know it is confusing and may not apply here, but understand the concern.
I, on the other hand, don't really give a sh-t what either side, buyer or seller, thinks of me...

Yes it is original finish at least in general. Only hands on will comfirm for sure on any gun. Even then there is always disagreement.
