Trying Ballistol lube treatment
 

I bought some of the Ballistol lube. It is really good for cleaning and restoring metals, rubber, plastics, leather & wood. But I would say to keep it away from Luger grips until you see how it affects them. It makes wood darker in appearance. Sometimes we want that effect but sometimes we don't.

Last week my lawnmower crapped out and I purchased a new one and decided to coat the underneath with Ballistol to keep the grass from clinging. It worked. No grass stuck there - except a few little places I had missed. Super effect.
I have tried on a Luger: it does excellent. I had cleaned that item twice before and I got more dirt on my rag than I ever expected.
Try it on tools and equipment. I tried it on my old hedge shears and it made them look and act quite better.
I cleaned a Kentucky rifle and it made a huge difference in that unit. It's 36 years old and it's hard to get the black powder residue out. It's clean now- I'll assure you. Outside and inside.

George Anderson turned me on to it when he sold me my 1917 artillery. You can buy it online for half price. I used it on this my Test piece and this is the result. They say is safe on leather. I won"t chance it on a 3k test holster. Eric Esq.

Just search "Ballistrol" the weird smell disappears in minutes!I bought mine threw amizon! 2 for 1!!

SOme people say it smells like Liqourice, I think it smells like filthy feet, and I am not the only one, Goolge Ballistoll smells like dirty feet. It does clean very good,but hey it is German, but I am never buying it again, AND I am going to try to stay off of U-Tube. None of the Gun scholrs in this country heard of this stuff 5 years ago, anything you can use as salad dressing and clean guns with makes me wonder. Again, I was impressed how good it cleaned my Smith and Wesson Model 10 and Browning 1900.

Its just another option, It has a smell that disapates! If that the worse. I wouldn't use it on anything but the metal ie barrel. I never used it on anything else. ie leather and tooth brushes! My old Polish Stada Baba 'It it smells it ready'

YEP, and get this, at times it smells like liqourice to me, but again, it is ONE darn GOOD cleaner. There was decades of grime on my Smith model 10 that nothing would have gotten it off like that Ballistoll. It really was impressive how it worked.The dirty feet thing, I thought i imagined it, until I Googled it, and there are people that think that. Laughing.

I recently bought two gallons of it on sale from an ad on e-bay!!

Hitler liked to drink it so much that he had to be treated for the side effects. It was sold, and still is in Europe, in "medical form" as a stomach cure.

This stuff is mineral oil. As far as smells go, give me Frank Hoppe's invention, old #9!!!

I've used better cleaners myself, but the history of this stuff is, indeed, interesting, and the black powder folks won't be found without it!

I grew up in Germany and used it on my air rifles since my childhood. I got used to the smell, just like the old Hoppe's No.9.

The manufacturer, Klever GmbH, makes also a special product for wood stock preservation and finishing, it comes in clear, red, and dark walnut. It' s called Scherell's Schaftol and works quite well, too.

I think I would like to have some of that.

Ihave no experience with this product but I did try the Ballistol based on the thread. I liked the result and ended up putting in on all my guns. While I can't smell a thing; I burnt out my olfactory mucosa years ago, my wife confirms it smells like licorice. If anyone follows up on this I would like to know what they thought of the result and process of importing it to the U.S.
