WWI Museum
 

Finally made the 50 mile drive to Kansas City to visit the National WWI Museum. Very glad that I did. I learned so very much about that conflict that I did not know. They are gearing up for the centennial beginning in 2014 so I probably will have to go several more times.

Well worth the time if you are in the area. Plan on 3 to 4 hours to take it all in.

Jack, I have heard this is a good museum, and I have read some on WW1, but there is an amazing amount of info that I don't know.

Jack, there is also a museum on post at Ft. Leavenworth, KS
 

across the river from K.C.....while stationed there in mid-60's at the Command and General Staff College, i was also in charge of the museum....we had a german "buzz bomb" in poor shape stacked in the back room....i went over to the military prison on post and recruited several fellows to work with the set of plans we had and recondition our bomb.........it looked really good when we put it on display several months later.......they also have a carriage which was used by President Lincoln when he visited the area....the Military Chapel on post is also a nice historical place to visit.............tom

Although I spent the majority of my career trying to avoid the facilities at Ft Leavenworth, it is indeed on my list to see. Lincoln's visit and speech at Leavenworth are a very big part of Kansas history.

the WW1 museum at that time was very interesting distraction for us and I can recall staring at a shrapnel damaged belt and holster on exhibit from the kia in France soldiers family. and also a few captured german machine guns in window display

looks like the museum is a must see soon

I would love to be a curator to a museum like this. A child in a toy store!!

The National WWI Museum (Liberty Memorial) is a great experience. They have spent millions of dollars reburbishing it into a world class military museum. The view from the top of the tower with the eternal flame is breathtaking.
