valuation question

I own a luger dated 1913 at the front of the receiver further noted "ERFURT" with a crown above it and a #26 adjacent. Looking at the pistol from the safety side, I find GESICHERT at or beneath the safety. The serial # is 4426, and all the parts seem to be consistantly numbered "26". The finish is chrome and the barrel length is 81mm. On the opposite side I am finding 3 small markings which all have crowns. From left to right the 1st has a crown with what looks like an old english B, a crown over a script looking D, and a crown over a C.

The holster is a blackish brown in good general condition with a good buckle and strap, a pull tab, an interior compartment for a cleaner and an exterior pouch containing an additional magazine.

I have never shot it, and I have no idea of its caliber.

My interest is valuation and rareity of what I am guessing is WW1 vintage. It was surrendered to my friend after the war in Bavaria by a very old man who may have been a policeman during the war.

Re: valuation question

You have a chromed W.W.I pistol which has been, by the addition of the chrome finish, ruined from a collector standpoint. However, it may well be a good shooter. Value of these chromed monsters ranges from about 350-600 depending on who is buying and where. Oh, its caliber is 9MM.

Hope this helps,

Tom

Re: valuation question

Is there any additional collector value to the holster rig either with or without the pistol?

Re: valuation question

James,

Just my opinion, but I would think that the holster would have more value on it's own. Anyone that would be interested in buying your chromed or nickled Luger would want the holster thrown in on the deal, and more than likely would not want to pay what the holster and spare magazine are worth. Does the small pocket inside the holster still have the loading tool?

Re: valuation question

James, Just a thought but you can have the chrome removed electronically and the pistol restored back to it's original rust blue. I did it on one of my pistols and it came out great. You want to have it done by someone who knows what he is doing so as not to buff it after the chrome is off. Ted Green on the Forum here would be my choice. There is some disagreement as to what this does to value but I do not think that it will hurt it, only improve it in anyones eyes. Do you intend to keep the pistol or get what you can out of it? The holster in good shape is worth between $100.00 and $300.00 in pristine shape. WW1 wood bottom mags usually go for $100.00 and up. Alot depending on condition. Jerry Burney

Re: valuation question

Most likely I would sell it "as is" and let someone else remove the chrome electronically. I would also like to sell the holster to the same party. Regarding the holster, upon closer inspection, there is broken stitching that would need tending to. The (2) ammo clips as far as I can tell seem to have steel bottoms. The one in the holster slot also has rust on it. Would you care to make an offer?

James,

I would be interested in your chromed luger. You can e-mail me at redace97@yahoo.com
