P.08 rebarreled August 1984 ?

The chamber serial on my 1939 P.O8 is "596" (with a big "X" in front of it ???) and the underside of the barrel is also serialed "596"; however, below the "596" on the underside of the barrel (in smaller characters) are the numbers "8.84". Does this mean the barrel was replaced in August 1984 ? If so, why is there an almost microscopic waffenampt on the left side of the barrel ? This thing isn't import marked so it entered the U.S. pre-1968 right ?

I read somewhere that the big 'X' means it is a reject, didn't pass inspection. The 8.84 is the barrel land dimentions, these vary from 8.83 to 8.85 and are found on nearly all Lugers. Is the little stamping on he left side of the barrel an eagle over 63?

Gewehr Guy - Barrel dimensions are in millimeters - don't forget that this is a German pistol.

Herb, I hope you're wrong 'bout the "X" but yep, the little waff is the "63" tho it took the boy's good eyes to discern. Terry, 'ppreciate the tip on about the millimeters.
