Cool! Maybe there could be a "Black Widow" P-61 night spot.

"Lady in the Dark" nose art.....

Certainly a good suggestion. The P-61 is a favorite indeed, alas I don't have an example in my portfolio. Using someone else's images would create legal infringement questions without a release. Do you have any other favorite vintage planes?

Thanks
Joe

Grumman F4- Hellcat that got its reputation at the Battle of Midway the carrier based. Eric Sloan a New England illustrationist. He is all so famous for His clouds and weather. He drew this in 1937 also did the mural entryway for our Air And Space Museum, in washington. Mow was given it from Grumman for work as a liason with the navy N.A.V.I.L.C.O. Mom died in 1979 during my first year in law school and take it out every few years to check its condition.

I can do justice to 6 of the ones you've listed. I have ALL the BELL X series, Doolittle's Seaplane Racer as well as most of the early pylon racers. Got some "Red Tail" P-51 images. WW I, Korea and Viet Nam era (both sides), TOO much fun.

Thanks for the input
Joe

I am not as familiar with Sloan's aviation art as I am with his work about hand-hewn barns. His representational art is excellent.

Eric Slone is Americana ie barns, tools and weather which got him into aviation. In his piece above you can see his emphasis on cloud patterns. He drew in pastels to bring his cloud patterns. It was a beautiful rendition more of weather and clouds. These only 4 know of aircraft besides mine! Im told after his son died in an aircraft accident, He never drew another plane!

Went through my attachments file today and deleted a metric ton of stuff, and couldn't quite ditch this yet. Since this thread is ~ 3yrs old, I thought I'd re-post to let some newer members get a laugh. :biggulp:

I wonder if artists still use the bomber jacket as a canvas for their creativity. Pin up art on an A-2 is just plain AWESOME!

alanint 05-05-2015 09:11 AM

The boring ol' air force no longer allows art on jackets, although they do score points for bringing back the traditional leather A2.
Steve McQueen's jacket in The Great Escape was an original, wartime A2. You are never close enough to be able to read the name strip, but it did belong to someone. That particular jacket had rank insignia removed from the shoulders prior to filming, as the discoloration on each epaulet where the rank insignia once were is obvious.
