Holster Repair Question
 

This may be a good question for Jerry Burney, but I hope someone has tried this.


I have a couple of the Norwegian Luger holsters that have had the web belt attachement removed and belt loops re-installed. The holes in the back have been plugged and the rework is very good, but, you can still see where the plugs were installed.


I was thinking about the leather repair kits that are available and was hoping someone may have tired this compound to hide the tell-tale signs of the plugs. I have used these leather repair kits on the dashboard and seats of my British sports cars I restored in the past and it did an excellent job. I wonder how this would work on the holster? Any comments or other solutions?

Marvin, No I have never tried this type of thing. Not a bad idea though. I have to wonder about color match...it's not too hard to match the plugs using old holster leather but I am not sure how these kits match color. If you try it out let me know how it works...I would be interested to know. Jerry Burney

Thanks for the response! I will try to find some of this stuff at the local auto parts store or Wal-mart and give it a try. The plugs in my holster are very well done, but you can see where they were installed. As to the color, the black I used on the car seats matched up almost perfectly. The little "kit" also had some type plastic which had different patterns to try and matching the "graining" as close as possible. I will keep you posted when I find the stuff and how it works.

Marvin, I just saw the stuff advertised on TV last nite! Seems you have to mix and match the color like a painter. I think it is the best idea yet as to how to deal with those pesky little plugs! If it works it would add some value to that type of holster I would guess. Jerry Burney

Yea, that is the stuff, but on TV it is too expensive! If memory serves me correct, the little kit I bought was about $6-7 dollars and only had about5 coloros in little pots that look like the pots in the "paint by numbers" sets. The only color I have used was the black so the rest will go to waste. I hope to stop by the auto parts store today and see if they have any.


When I find it, I will give it a try and let everyone know how it works. I just want the holster to look a little better and not try to pass them off as unaltered. Will keep everyone posted.

Marvin,I would not be too hasty about throwing out the other colors. Might be useful to blend shades of black or brown...Never know! Of course I am a packrat at heart. Jerry Burney

HA, HA, HA, I agree with you about throwing out the other colors, I am a packrat myself! I did stop at the Advance Auto store a few minutes ago and they didn't have any. I did not expect them too as they have nothing but a TON on air freshener cards.


My wife is going to stop at one of the craft shops this evening and take a look. I will find some soon and report. I guess I am to cheap tp pay $20 from the TV advertisement.

Thanks for the info. I have tried Wal-Mart Advance Auto, and they have none of this stuff. I will check K-Mart and them some of the "craft" stores in my area. As a last case, I will order some of the TV advertisements.
